BREAKING: Ekiti Senator Dumps Fayose's Camp For Sheriff's

BREAKING: Ekiti Senator Dumps Fayose's Camp For Sheriff's

Ayodele Fayoser
While the Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, champions the movement against Ali Sheriff as Peoples Democratic Party chairman, a senator from his state has declared full support for Mr. Sheriff.

Mr. Sheriff has been recognised as PDP chairman by the Court of Appeal. But Mr. Fayose, who heads the PDP Governors Forum, and other party leaders have restated their opposition to Mr. Sheriff ad vowed to appeal the judgement at the Supreme Court.

However, on Sunday, Fatimat Raji-Rasaki, who represents Ekiti Central Senatorial District said Mr. Sheriff was the authentic national chairman of the PDP.

She made the declaration on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti while speaking with journalists at the end of a three-day capacity building training on ICT she organised for 100 beneficiaries in her constituency.

Mrs. Raji-Rasaki’s declaration comes days after another senator from Bayelsa State, Ben Murray-Bruce also declared support for Mr. Sheriff saying there was no need for further litigations.

On Sunday, Mrs. Raji-Rasaki, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Trade and Investment, said the era of impunity was dead in the PDP.
She said that the Court of Appeal judgment which affirmed Mr. Sheriff as the national chairman of PDP had afforded the party an opportunity to put its house in order.

The lawmaker, who belongs to a rival PDP faction in Ekiti different from the governor’s, said the recent developments in Ekiti and at the national level, would enable the PDP prepare ahead of the 2019 general elections.

She described the Court of Appeal judgment as a “new lease of life’’ for members of the party.
 Fatimat Raji-Rasaki

The senator, who distributed free laptops to participants who attended the training, stressed that anybody that wants to make impact in today’s world must be empowered technologically.

She urged the beneficiaries to put into practice what they learnt at the training.

Mrs. Raji-Rasaki expressed sadness that impunity, lawlessness, violation of the PDP constitution and abuse of power by people whose names she did not mention, had negatively affected the party’s fortunes before the judgment.

She expressed hope that the PDP would emerge stronger from its crises to be a party that would allow equity, justice, fair play, adherence to due process and the principles of democracy to thrive.

The senator expressed satisfaction that the judiciary intervened and resolved the protracted crises rocking the party.

She lauded the Ekiti chapter of the party for affirming Williams Ajayi as the authentic state chairman.

She alleged that some individuals in the PDP had turned the party into their personal property where party congresses and primaries elections to elect candidates were hijacked.

She added that members of the party were not allowed to choose candidates of their choice.

She said: “Crisis in any political party is part of democracy because we disagree to agree.

“We, the authentic PDP, are being led by Ali Modu Sheriff and we thank God that the court judgment has put an end to impunity in our party.

“Impunity is one thing that destroys any organisation or association where people decide and subscribe to rules and regulations guiding them.

“It is a pity that some people turned the PDP to a place where one person will corner everything and turn it to PLC.
“A party is supposed to be where everybody has a say because we are in a democracy

“In Ekiti, the authentic executive has won in court as well, so in the PDP, we have no option than to obey the rule of law.”

Why I Attended Akeredolu's Swearing-in - Gov. Fayose

Why I Attended Akeredolu's Swearing-in - Gov. Fayose

AYODELE FAYOSE AT AKEREDOLU'S SWEARING IN
Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State said on Friday that he attended the inauguration of Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo to promote unity in Yoruba land.

Fayose, a prominent member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said this in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, in Ado-Ekiti.

He said that he could not have done otherwise because the unity of Yoruba people was too important for anybody to play politics with.

“I see nothing wrong in attending the inauguration of an APC person in neighbouring Ondo State.

“Being a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should not stop me from attending the inauguration of an All Progressives Congress (APC) governor.”

According to him, such an occasion is a national one that well-meaning people should identify with.

“This is a Nigerian affair; when a governor is sworn in, we have to support him; we are talking of regional integration and unity here; Akeredolu is already one of us by virtue of his new position.
“We have to support him since electioneering has come and gone and a winner has emerged, and we have to work together in the spirit of the people of our region.

“We cannot play politics with the welfare of the people of our region; we have to support Akeredolu to make the difference.

“This is a matter of the Yoruba nation and after Nigeria, Yoruba nation comes first‎; we don’t need to play politics with the welfare of Yoruba people.”

He advised that his actions in recent times should not be mistaken for an attempt by him to dump his party, the PDP, insisting that nothing of such was in the offing.

“How can I join the APC? As you already know, I am the main issue of the APC.

“They don’t have my size. They are wearing `babaringa’ but they don’t have the size of my cloth,” he said.

I'll Work With Fayose, Wike, Ready To Sacrifice My Position For Peace In PDP - Sheriff Denies Hate Speech

I'll Work With Fayose, Wike, Ready To Sacrifice My Position For Peace In PDP - Sheriff Denies Hate Speech

SHERIFF FAYOSE AND WIKE
Contrary to an earlier report, the reinstated national Chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff has denied hate speech against the duo of Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose and his rivers state counterpart, Barr. Nyesom Wike, declaring he is ready to work with all stakeholders in the party. This is as even he declared that if need be, he is ready to relinquish his office for peace to reign in the party.

Sheriff was restored to the chairmanship post on Friday by the Court of Appeal, amid controversy.

At a news conference yesterday in Abuja, he dismissed the rejection of his court-ordered reinstatement by some key stakeholders of the party, stressing that he has commenced broad consultations aimed at restoring peace and unity in the PDP.

“I have been consulting with leaders of the party,” Sheriff told the press conference. “From Monday, I will consult our members in the National Assembly; I will consult the BoT and everybody so that we can work together. I can assure you that within the shortest time possible, we will organise a successful national convention so that people can aspire for whatever positions they want to.”

He said, “I am determined to make my honest contributions to the success of this party. I am ready to make any sacrifice for the success of this party. We don’t want PDP to lose elections again. We need people to patronise our party. Democracy is about people, you either give them their right or they leave. What we are trying to do is to give the party back to the people.”
Sheriff dismissed the statement by the chairman of PDP Governors Forum, Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, which condemned the appeal court verdict, saying it is a personal opinion that does not represent the position of the governors.

The former governor of Borno State said, though, he had confidence in the country’s judiciary, litigation was not the best way to settle the disputes in the party. He urged those making “misguided statements on the integrity of our judges to desist from doing so.”

Regarding the appeal court ruling in his favour, he said, “I want to assure that nobody is victor and no one is a loser. In fact, I have spoken to almost all the people that are affected by the court decision and assured them of my readiness to work with them to ensure that the party returns as one family.”
Sheriff dismissed the insinuations in some quarter that he was working for the APC and President Muhammadu Buhari. The former governor said from the antecedents of those making the allegations, the public could decipher the truth.

He said, “I don’t believe all those insinuations that were being peddled around. All those that are saying that the APC are responsible for the PDP crisis may have something to hide.”
Sheriff denied reports that he had made disparaging comments about Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and Fayose, saying, “This is the first I am making any statement ever since the Port Harcourt court pronouncement, but I have seen many things on the Internet purported to have been said by me against some leaders of the party

“I think people should respect themselves, they should not compound the problems for the party.”
As a mark of his commitment to peace, Sheriff said he would hold a meeting with members of the reconciliation committee headed by Governor Sirieka Dickson of Bayelsa State.
According to him, “The judgement of the Port Harcourt Court of Appeal on Friday does not call for merriment or mourning. In my candid view, there was no victor and no vanquished.

“I see the judgement as a golden opportunity for a sincere renewal of our sense of unity and fraternity. No doubt, we have come a long and tortuous road wherein some of us have been bruised or outrightly wounded and are hurting. I understand also that for some of us, our ego has been agitated.
“Yet, I dare say that we can put all of that behind us and come together with one accord and move our great party, the PDP, forward.

“All of us are winners, Sheriff is not the winner and Makarfi is not the loser. I have received calls from our party leaders, the governors and members of the National Assembly.

“It is not about me or any ambition; it is about the survival of our great party. On this score. I can assure you that I shall be willing to make any sacrifice that can guarantee peace in our party.”

He continued, “This morning I have spoken to Governor Dickson, who is the chairman of the peace committee, and former Deputy Senate President Ibrahim Mantu on the development and how to get back the peace process on track. Court has made its pronouncement, right, but what is important is how we proceed to organise our successful convention. First of all I must make consultations with all the leaders of the party.”

Sheriff stated that his leadership will move to reopen the party’s national secretariat, which has been locked by the police following clashes by the two factions of the party. He said he would pursue the matter in court this week.

Meanwhile, a stakeholders’ meeting has been called for tomorrow by chairman of the PDP national caretaker committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi. The committee was appointed during the contentious national convention of May 21 last year in Port Harcourt to oversee the affairs of the party after Sheriff’s ouster. The notice of the meeting circulated yesterday, signed by the national publicity secretary of the committee, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said it would discuss “crucial party matters.”

It is widely believed that the decision of the appeal court, which went against the Makarfi leadership, would be a key subject at the meeting scheduled for 2pm at the International Conference Centre, Abuja. Those invited include members of the National Executive Committee, members of the Board of Trustees, National Assembly members, former governors of PDP, former ministers under the platform of the PDP, former National Assembly members, and party elders.

Sheriff won a major victory on Friday in the protracted leadership tussle in the PDP, which broke out after his removal at the Port Harcourt convention. Despite the victory, he said he would pursue peaceful measures aimed at reunifying the party.

In a related development, the youth wing of PDP in the South-east has rejected the judgement of the Court of Appeal that reinstated Sheriff as national chairman of the party. The South-east zonal youth leader of the party, Comrade Chidiebere Goodluck Egwu, said the youth of the zone would not recognise Sheriff as national chairman of PDP. Egwu said they still recognised the Makarfi leadership, stressing that they are optimistic that the Supreme Court would set aside the judgement of the appeal court.

“We, the South-east PDP youth, stand with Alhaji Ahmed Markafi, PDP caretaker national chairman,” the youth leader said.

Ali Modu Sheriff
The Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the Peoples Democratic party, PDP has resolved to head to the Supreme court to challenge the Appeal court ruling. which handed former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the authentic Chairman of the party this aftrenoon

Governors Forum of the Peoples Democratic Party and the party’s Board of Trustees have said that Senator Ali Modu Sheriff can not lead the party.

They said this while reacting to the Port Harcourt Court of Appeal judgment which sacked the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led national caretaker committee of the party.

Chairman of the Forum, who is also the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, stated this on behalf of the governors in Abuja on Friday.

He said “But the outcome of the Port Harcourt Court of Appeal that reinstated Sheriff against the will of the people, is nothing  but a rape of our democracy.

“If the people truly symbolizes what a party is, then the machination of our detractors and the anti-democratic organs will not prevail at last.

“We commend the minority judgment of the lower court and we believe the truth will prevail. Thank God we have another opportunity to seek justice at the Supreme Court, which I believe will not be delayed or denied.

“The party will appeal the judgement as we believe in the ability of the judiciary to do justice, however we plead with our members, leaders and supporters to calm down as we keep hope alive.

“If this is a price to pay, to keep our democracy alive and opposition strengthened, we are prepared to go the whole hug.”

He added that the party organs would meet soon and take concrete steps and decisions on the way forward.

Sheriff, shortly after his victory at the Appeal Court this afternoon reportedly said characters such as Wike and Fayose cannot find a way through to attain prominence in the PDP in the future.

the former Borno State governor was quoted to have said;

"I will engineer a restructuring of the PDP such that characters like Wike and Fayose cannot find a way through to attain any position of prominence in our party in the future. They have brought shame and agony through the application of their crude and godless politics which is at variance with the principles upon which our founding fathers built our great party."
"We must find a way to sieve things so that only men of character and integrity can come through for positions of responsibility at all levels of our political engagement in the country. We must urgently steer the ship of PDP clear of the path of infamy which Wike and Fayose has brought our party, making Nigerians to mistaken PDP as a training ground for thugs."
"That is the urgent task we have. We cannot continue to advertise thug brand and expect Nigerians to take us seriously", he reportedly said

Fayose storms Finance Ministry over non release of Ekiti Allocation

Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose on Wednesday stormed the Ministry of Finance over the non payment of the state's January budget support allocation of N1.1 billion.

This is even as former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode described the development as petty, vindictive and reprehensible.

Addressing the media shortly after storming the ministry, Fayose explained that his coming there was a follow up of the alarm he raised on Tuesday about non-payment of his monthly allocation and budget support.

"I believe I should do a follow up today (yesterday) to meet with the Minister of Finance for an update, but she actually called me on Tuesday that she just got back but going to look into it today (yesterday) and have it resolved as soon as possible.

"You will however appreciate that Ekiti civil servants are restive, having spent Christmas and there is no money in January, obviously there will be challenges.

"By the time I got here the Minister has already gone for the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, but I met the Special Adviser, who assured me that the matter will be resolved when the Minister is back.

"What we are talking about is a part of the monthly allocation and the budget support which is about N1.1b that have not been paid.

"I believe this should be done immediately and I want to believe also that it was a mix up and not political but if it is political, they will have a lot of questions to answer why it should be so.

"If they want to fight Fayose, they should fight Fayose, not the civil servants of Ekiti, but I appreciate her promptness and promise to resolve the matter."

Explaining that Ekiti is the only state being owed January allocation, Fayose said, "It is only Ekiti that is involved and this is the second time, that explains why I was suspicious and have to act fast.

I got a text from the Central Bank of Nigeia (CBN) that the money has been paid and later I learnt that there is a withdrawal of that instruction that Ekiti was not included in the list out of the entire Federation.

"So, naturally I have to be and when it happened that it was just Ekiti State alone, I have to be suspicious. The Minister has given me her word, at her level as a minister, that is good enough.

"If the promise of the Minister to resolve this issue as quickly as possible is not adhered to, I will have to bring it back to the public domain. We are all in the court of the public opinion where the public is able to judge whether justice is served at all times.
Governance is beyond all of us but I want to believe that they will do it."

Also reacting to the development, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode said, "the federal government's refusal to release the monthly allocation to the Ekiti State government is petty, vindictive and reprehensible.

"Simply because the courageous Ayo Fayose has become the rallying point of opposition against Muhammadu Buhari does not mean that the people of Ekiti state should suffer.

"I call on Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to intervene in this matter expeditiously and release the Ekiti State government's allocation forthwith."

Beyond politics and to foster unity that will engance speedy development of the region, the governors from all the states in the South-West geopolitical zone on Monday met in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, and agreed to give quality education to the youths to ensure moral standards are maintained in order to enhance the zone’s development.

In a communique issued after their meeting held and read by the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, the governors agreed to establish a regional Centre of Excellence each in the six states of the region

The governors also agreed to adopt a common framework on security by directing the Commissioners of Police in the zone to meet regularly and share intelligence to ensure safety in aerial, land and waterways with state governments supporting with critical resources.

On energy and power, digital and telecoms; leisure and entertainment as well as water infrastructure, the governors also agreed to collaborate by constituting a Regional Technical Working Group on South-West Integrated Infrastructural Development.

The forum approved the South-West Regional Integrated Commercial Agriculture Development Programme while Lagos is to champion a structured regional food exchange programme.

“The Odua Investment Group is to serve as a special purpose vehicle to drive the regional economic integration mission.

“Lagos will  reinforce itself as a stakeholder and critical part of the Odua Investment Group as the vehicle for the socio-political and economic development of the South-West geopolitical zone of Nigeria within the framework of prospering the lot our people,” the communique read partly.

The next governors’ forum would hold in April in Ogun.

Earlier, Fayose had, while welcoming the governors, urged them to protect regional interest and the socio-economic development of the people.

Lamenting that the 2017 budget of the Federal Government was not in favour of the South-West, Fayose pointed out that the zone was one of the least beneficiaries in the 2017 budget.

The governors’ quarterly meeting held under the Development Agenda for Western Commission.

Those at the meeting, apart from Fayose, who was the host, were governors Rauf Aregbesola (Osun); Senator Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo); Dr. Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo); Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos); while Ogun State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga, represented Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

Fayose also urged the governors to adopt a common strategy to curb the menace of herdsmen in the South-West so as to prevent the people of the zone from being consumed by hunger.

Alleging the marginalisation of the zone in the federal structure, Fayose said, “How much did the Federal Government allocate to irrigation, construction of dams and storage facilities to boost agriculture in the South-West?”
