Florida Gay Night Club Killing of 50 Worst In US History

Florida Gay Night Club Killing of 50 Worst In US History

Florida Gay Night Club Killing of 50 Worst In US History
A gunman killed 50 people at a packed gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida on Sunday and wounded 53 others before being killed by police in the worst mass shooting in U.S. history.

The shooter was identified as Omar Mateen, a Florida resident who a senior FBI official said might have had leanings towards Islamic State militants.

Officials called the rampage a “terrorism incident,” but cautioned that the suspected Islamist connection required further investigation.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said the attack was the deadliest single U.S. shooting incident, eclipsing the 32 people killed in the 2007 massacre at Virginia Tech University.

“Today we’re dealing with something that we never imagined and is unimaginable,” Dyer said.

He said the casualty doubles an earlier estimate that about 20 bodies were found in the Pulse nightclub.

A police officer working as a security guard inside the club, which has operated in downtown Orlando since 2004, exchanged fire with the suspect at about 2 a.m. (0600 GMT), police officials said.

A hostage situation quickly developed, and three hours later SWAT team officers used armoured cars to storm the club before shooting dead the gunman.

It was unclear when the gunman killed the victims.

Police said one officer was injured after he was hit in his helmet while exchanging fire with the gunman.

“Do we consider this an act of terrorism? Absolutely,” said Danny Banks, special agent in charge of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

“Whether that is domestic terrorist activity or an international one that is something we will certainly get to the bottom of,” Banks said.

2015 Rio Olympics: Shocks As 30 Men Gang Rape 16yrs Old In Host City, Post Video Online
The host city of Rio De Janeiro and the whole Brazil were reportedly in shock as some 30 men and boys ganged raped a 14 years old and tweeted it video on Friday.

The allegation the Brazilian police are currently investigating, Reuters reported

The reported assault was discovered after one of the suspects posted to Twitter a video of the nude, semi-conscious youth, with a few men brazenly insulting the girl, showing their faces, and one man heard saying, "more than 30 impregnated her!" The Twitter account where the video was posted has since been suspended.

Police said the girl told them more than 30 men had assaulted her, but they could not yet confirm how many took part in the alleged rape, as they are still investigating, Reuters says

"There are all the indications that this rape did in fact happen, but we still have to investigate further before we can absolutely confirm it," said Fernando Veloso, head of Rio's civil police department, at a press conference on Friday.

Veloso said police have identified four suspects so far in the assault that apparently took place last Saturday in a western Rio slum - but have yet to make any arrests, saying further investigation is required.

Hashtags on Twitter such as #EstuproNaoÉCulpaDaVitima - Portuguese for "rape is not the victim's fault" - blasting the reported crime were among the top global trends.

Many Facebook users in Brazil, including suspended President Dilma Rousseff, the nation's first woman leader, changed their profile photos to the Venus female gender symbol with words calling for an end to a "culture of rape."

Brazil's interim President Michel Temer wrote on his Twitter account that he "vehemently repudiates" the alleged rape, and added that "it is absurd that in the 21st century we have to live with barbaric crimes like this."

Temer appointed a new government this month when Rousseff was suspended to face trial in the Senate for allegedly breaking budget rules. He came under intense criticism for excluding women and black Brazilians from his cabinet - something not seen in decades.

Temer said his justice minister would meet on Tuesday with the public security chiefs who oversee policing in Brazilian states to discuss how better to combat violence against women.

The interim president also said he would form a special department within the federal police focused on crimes against women, which would help to coordinate action and share information among the individual state security departments.

When Temer served as head of public safety for Sao Paulo state the early 1990s, he created the first police division in Brazil devoted to combating crimes against women, an idea that has since spread throughout the country.

'Fantastically Corrupt: Angry British Lawmakers Summons Cameron, PM Apologizes To Nigeria, Admits Errors

Apparently feeling so uncomfortable with 'fantastically corrupt' comment credited to the British Prime Minister, David Cameron on Nigeria and Afganistan, the House of Commons, a report says have summoned the PM, querying the rationale.

The PM, in his reaction according to report admitted making many “unforced errors” in the last 24 hours.

Speaking when he appeared before the House of Commons, which summoned him over disparaging comments about Nigeria and Afghanistan, Cameron made a U-turn, saying both countries were making “remarkable steps forward” in their war against anti-corruption.

He said: “First of all, I had better check the microphone is on before speaking…  tips on diplomacy are useful, given the last 24 hours, I have made many unforced errors.

“The leaders of Nigeria and Afghanistan are battling hard against very corrupt systems and have made remarkable steps forward.”

Angus Robertson, Scottish National Party leader, was said to have asked Cameron if he had heard the complaints of some Nigerian anti-corruption activists, who said their efforts were “seriously undermined” by the UK authorities.

“The role of London’s property market to conceal stolen wealth has been exposed in court documents, reports, documentaries and more.

“What is the Prime Minister going to do about this?” Robertson reportedly asked.

In his response, Cameron was quoted as saying: “Action is necessary by developed countries, as well as developing countries, and the steps we are taking to make sure that foreign companies that own UK property have to declare who the beneficial owner is will be one of the ways we make sure that plundered money from African countries can’t be hidden in London.”

Cameron had come under fire since the video of a private conversation he had with the Queen, with Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, in attendance, where he referred to Nigeria and Afghanistan as “fantastically corrupt countries,” a remark that did not go down well with Welby, who vouched for the integrity of the Nigerian leader, with whom he met yesterday at Lambert Palace, London.

US Presidential Race: Trump's Last Rival, Governor John Kasich of Ohio Quits

US Presidential Race: Trump's Last Rival, Governor John Kasich of Ohio Quits

US Presidential Race: Trump Main Rival, Governor John Kasich of Ohio Quits
As the presidential election of the United States of America reaching it climax, Ohio Governor, John Kasich has eventually dropped his ambition in the race to occupy the White House after struggling to gain traction against Republican front-runner, Donald Trump.

Mr. Kasich did not have a path to secure the nomination outright, but pledged to lobby for his candidacy during the Republican convention in July, the BBC reports.

Mr. Trump holds a commanding lead and is closing in on the nomination.

His likely opponent will be Democratic front-runner, Hillary Clinton, who lost the Indiana primary to Bernie Sanders.

It was a surprise win for the Vermont senator who continues to attract huge crowds to his rallies, but his opponent has an almost insurmountable lead.

Speaking to CNN about taking on Mr. Trump, Mrs. Clinton said he was a “loose cannon” who had ran a “negative, bullying” campaign.

The New York businessman has made several controversial remarks ever since he launched his White House bid by labelling Mexicans as rapists and criminals.

Several senior Republicans said on Wednesday they will not back him, with some saying they would prefer to vote for Mrs. Clinton.

Mr. Kasich’s announcement, which will be made later but has been leaked to the United States media, clears Mr. Trump’s path although he was never a significant threat and only won his home state.

Source: Huff Post
The Republican leading Presidential aspirant, Donald Trump has described the sudden alliance between Republican colleagues, Ted Cruz and John Kasich as a forced marriage between two 'Strange bedfellows.

Trump blasted the entire arrangement as "pathetic" and emblematic of the corrupt political system he's trying to disrupt.

"If you collude in business ... they put you in jail. But in politics ... you're allowed to collude," he said, according to CNN's report

The CNN report says, the Texas senator and Ohio governor roiled the Republican presidential primary late Sunday with a coordinated effort to deny Donald Trump the nomination by dividing upcoming contests. Cruz will focus on Indiana, the campaign said, while Kasich would devote his efforts to Oregon and New Mexico.

But the competition between the two contenders was alive on the campaign trail Monday.

Cruz hailed Kasich's decision to "pull out of Indiana to give us a head-to-head contest with Donald Trump."

Kasich said the arrangement wasn't meant to discourage voters in Indiana, which holds its increasingly critical primary May 3, from supporting him.
"I've never told them not to vote for me," he said. "They ought to vote for me. But I'm not over there campaigning and spending resources."

Trump, meanwhile, blasted the entire arrangement as "pathetic" and emblematic of the corrupt political system he's trying to disrupt.
"If you collude in business ... they put you in jail. But in politics ... you're allowed to collude," he said.

"It shows that they are just getting killed," Trump said, mocking Kasich's "1 for 41" showing in the primary race and saying Cruz was cracking under pressure.

"Actually, I was happy, because it shows how weak they are, it shows how pathetic they are," Trump said.

The deal is a sign of the increasing odds facing GOP forces trying to stop Trump short of the 1,237 delegates he needs to clinch the nomination, following his huge win in New York last week and expected sweep of a string of northeastern primaries Tuesday. Should Trump win Indiana, which is effectively a winner-take-all race, it would be tough for Cruz and Kasich to stop him collecting the delegate haul needed to win a first convention vote in Cleveland in July, the CNN report says
