US Election: Clinton's Democrats Lose Voters Intimidation Suit Against Trump At 11th-Hour

US Election: Clinton's Democrats Lose Voters Intimidation Suit Against Trump At 11th-Hour

The US Supreme Court on Monday rejected an 11th-hour move by the Democratic Party in Ohio seeking to prevent Donald Trump supporters from carrying out certain actions that could be considered voter intimidation.

The legal battle, followed across the country because of its potential implications, had stemmed from Trump’s assertions on the campaign trail — without providing evidence — that the election was likely to be “rigged” and that his supporters should watch polling sites on Tuesday.

Fearing this call would lead to Trump supporters intimidating voters, particularly minorities who are more likely to support Democrat Hillary Clinton, the Ohio Democratic Party filed a lawsuit and initially won their case in federal court on Friday.

US District Judge James Gwin had issued a ruling barring activities including following, questioning or photographing voters or their vehicles.

The Trump campaign appealed and won, with the Sixth Circuit US Court of Appeals in Cincinnati on Sunday suspending Gwin’s order, saying the Ohio Democratic Party had not sufficiently substantiated their arguments.

On Monday, the shorthanded Supreme Court — with eight justices instead of the usual nine as Republicans have blocked President Barack Obama’s nominee to replace the late conservative justice Antonin Scalia — sided with the appeals court.

In keeping with protocol, the high court is reluctant to intervene just before a national election.

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said in a statement that she voted to deny the Democratic party’s case because Ohio already has laws in place to stymie voter intimidation.

USA Decides 2016: Hillary Clinton Remains The Better Qualified Candidate, by Adedayo Osho

Hillary Clinton
Until her exit as Secretary of State in February 2013, Hillary Clinton has been one of American women-politician who displays rare breed of intellect. Beyond patriotic service, or the empathy to protect [American] national pride, her intent to run for US Presidency in 2016 may no doubt, largely be tied to attendant prestige accrued to power, or the utilisation of same.

Political historians proved that the history of human existence and the species' urge for power has been overshadowed by the crave to influence the system, and by extension, the society. The author's assertion applies to political-hustler world over.

One can predict dynamics of power-play by those who once occupy political office[s] under given regimes; newly entrant power-grabber and actors long relegated to mere spectators if elected possess the tendency to drive hitherto prosperous nations into teeter. When you combine Hillary Clinton's previous experience at the corridor of power in various sensitive political offices; how she piloted American foreign policy, integrating continents to embrace US as a friendly partner in progress; her assiduous effort to enact health care plan; and despite obvious lacuna in effecting lasting peace in Libya, her commitment to key the US so as to cultivate deeper investment in Africa, then she is the next answer for Blacks in US.

More recently, I have had to distance myself from anything Donald Trump. This was informed by his many reckless statements ranging from anti-Islam, lack of respect for the female demography, and his ailing utterances about Mexicans and Black race at large living on the soil of USA. When in history has religion, race and gender become pronounced by any enlightened American candidate running for its Presidency?

Questions have been around Trump's background. Men with "brutal record and experiences" says, John Lander, "are prone to lead their nation to generational atrocities when elected" into position of authority. It is important to state that the Presidency of the USA is one of the greatest political offices in the world. It suffice to presume same deserve a scale of respect by h/er occupier.

Many countries in North America has become dependent on USA for financial assistance for long. For instance, in February 2015, the Obama administration asked Congress for $750 million of aid for Central America to improve on security, and squelch corruption. Will Donald Trump who is aiming to build a barbed-wire border to mitigate against inflow of Mexican immigrants bother to assist any American country in need, needless, Africa?

It is a very alarming development how well-schooled world citizens keep defending Donald Trump that he did not made such wreaking statements simply because they are becoming to hunt him as election day appears. Such is a tale of scholarship conspiracy, isn't? Also very embarrassing of the support for Trump, are African families who predominantly depend on foreign money transfers, the category of those who queue in front of Ria, Moneygram, Western Union, as seen all over banks. What will be your gain if Trump deport that relative of yours who does those transfers?

Because Lady Angela Merkel of Germany, the Chancellor of that largest European economy absorbed the largest number of Syrian refugees, one is made to concur without doubt that women do have sympathy and are best social-welfare inclined. This inform us to presume that Hillary Clinton may be sympathetic to countries-in-need.

A reprieve on impending war against Blacks and Muslims in USA is possible only if we can all stand behind a true democrat: Hillary Clinton.

Forget about that concocted "Email Scandal" instituted against Clinton, an accusation FBI can not publicly come out victorious. She remains the best, most qualified for the President of The United States [POTUS]. Even the most ethical human ruler is subject to inherent imperfection and propaganda.

The Man Buhari'll Ensure Succeeds Him, Why Tinubu Should Not Be Rubbished - Pa Olaniwun's N'Tribune Interview Before His Death

Nigerian Tribune - Sir Olaniwun Ajayi, former Commissioner for Education in the defunct Western Region, a foremost lawyer and chieftain of the Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, died in the early hours of Friday. In this interview conducted on Wednesday (2 November, 2016) by Saturday Tribune’s KEHINDE OYETIMI and RITA OKONOBOH, which turned out to be his last, the elder statesman spoke on the state of the nation, the judiciary and the anti-corruption war, among other issues. Excerpts:

Sir Olaniwun Ajayi
As a foremost lawyer, how would you react to the accusation of judges involved in money laundering and corruption?

It’s most disappointing. Again, it is part of the corruption going on in the country, but one least expected that the judiciary should have been involved in this very very ugly enterprise. It is most disappointing. I was devastated to hear that so much. The judiciary is our hope; the hope of everyone in the country. But to think and realise that the people on whom we will rely for hope and salvation would be involved in such a very dirty practice is most terrible. On whether they should be arraigned and tried, the DSS applied Gestapo practice, there is no doubt about that. But the thing is why should our judges be found in that practice? Although the way they have been dealt with, such as going to their houses in the dead of night, that could be described as high-handed. But then, why should the circumstance arise for such to happen? It is very bad.

One of the arrested judges indicted one or two serving ministers in the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, particularly noting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) interests be taken care of. Do you think that these indicted ministers should step aside?

They should certainly step aside and that allegation should be investigated. They shouldn’t resume office until they are exonerated. In fact, without anyone forcing them to do so, they should voluntarily step aside and declare that they are ready for probe. Buhari shouldn’t harbour such people because he is out to clean the Aegean’s Stable in this country. It shouldn’t be half and half; he should go the whole hog.

There have also been various allegations against the presidency that the fight against corruption is lopsided. How would you react to such claims and what do you think can be done?

What does the law require? What does the law provide? If we cannot meet the requirements of the law, it should be out. It doesn’t matter who you are. Not too long ago, the former president of Egypt was sent to prison for having behaved improperly. So why not we? We are talking of leaders. What sort of example are they giving our young people? It is very bad. Anybody and everybody involved in this dirty practice should be dealt with according to the law.

Do you believe that the fight against corruption is holistic?

I’m not too sure about that because if it was holistic, the name of the Minister of Transport wouldn’t have been mentioned, as well as one or two others. However, once their names are mentioned, the president should say, ‘brother please go home and get yourself clean before you are considered whether to come back here or not.’  It should be holistic and there should be no sacred cows. If it is done half and half, then it is not clean.

That brings us to the issue of one of the APC national leaders, Senator Bola Tinubu. Some time ago, the president’s wife did say certain interests had hijacked the presidency, insinuating that the likes of Tinubu were not accorded their place in the presidency. Also, recently, foremost Afenifere leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, said they wouldn’t sit back and watch as Tinubu is rubbished. What is your take on that?

Really and truly, Tinubu should not be rubbished because he, Buhari and others worked for the success of APC. So, for him to be sidelined and ignored in the affairs of government and administration is unfair. What ought to be done is that Tinubu should be treated decently because he was more or less the champion of the politicians who brought Buhari to power. He shouldn’t be ignored or maltreated or rubbished. That is not to say Tinubu is a holy man. He has his own weaknesses, no doubt about that. At the same time, he has worked for the party and should benefit from what goes on in the party. But for him to be neglected or relegated to the background, I think it is improper.

Do you see Tinubu as the face of the Yoruba nation?

I don’t see him as such. It’s a bit intricate, in the sense that if Tinubu had behaved in the way expected by Yoruba people, the politics of Nigeria wouldn’t be as it is now. What I mean is this. Alliance for Democracy (AD) came in and through the party, Tinubu became governor. However, when he was well seated comfortably as governor, he rubbished the leaders of the party and in any case, brought the AD into problem, until the party more or less, collapsed. Then, he was looking for alliances from various parties until they formed the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). From that, they jumped to APC. Tinubu was, more or less, promoting self interest as opposed to the interest of the Yoruba people. If he had been consistent in promoting the interest of the Yoruba people, what is happening to him today would not happen because AD would have become a very formidable, strong political party. Of course, he was not alone. With the other governors elected in 1999, they all connived and brought AD to an end. So, that is it.

But Tinubu could not say that he was not warned about allying with the Fulani. He was warned. Those who were, at that time, sounding notes of warning about Fulani coming into power, it’s not that they were so convinced about the suitability of former President Goodluck Jonathan. Jonathan was preferred by some people because he was quite easy to talk to. Of course, when he arranged the 2014 National Conference, he promised to implement the decision of the conference, but he was not given the opportunity because he was defeated. Maybe he was properly defeated or he was rigged out of the election, I don’t know. However, as I said, Jonathan was not the fit and proper person to lead Nigeria. He has his own faults which are very serious. See all the mess about corruption during his administration, even extending to his wife. It is an unfortunate situation. However, if care had been taken about allying with Buhari, maybe Tinubu might have been in another situation.

You have repeatedly called on President Buhari to address Nigeria’s diversity, less we disintegrate. When you consider the accusations and counter-accusations about the president being lopsided in appointments, how would you assess that?

Well, I’m not surprised because when he was about to assume the presidency of this country, your colleagues in other newspapers came to me and I told them point-blank that Buhari would not be able to play the game as it ought to be played. What I realised is that, he is a highly disciplined person, being a soldier, but we saw what he did at PTF. Buhari is a Fulani man. The Fulanis are very conscious of power and they don’t joke with power. And of course, Buhari’s treatment of Tinubu has just started. It could be worse for Tinubu realising the political power Tinubu possesses and how he exercises such power. But then, the Fulani are more adroit and more clever about that. I’m sure Nigeria is not unlikely to regret Buhari becoming president because at the end his term, he will leave no stone unturned to ensure that he is succeeded by a Fulani man. I wouldn’t be surprised.

With the events leading up to the Ondo governorship election and the recent protests regarding the emergence of Jimoh Ibrahim as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), do you see federal might coming to play to influence INEC regarding the eventual outcome of the electoral exercise?

I don’t know. Anything can happen. In Nigeria, politics is not clean and that is unfortunate. You know what happened in Kogi and how the Yoruba man was prevented from becoming governor. It wasn’t by way of balloting or something. It’s a design to ensure that no Yoruba man would be governor of any state in the North. So, that’s the problem. The other day, all the Northern governors went to America. That’s not without a purpose. So, let’s wait till 2019. You’ll see what will happen. What makes a person like me very sad and disappointed is that there’s no true, proper politics and unless and until Nigeria is restructured, there will be no stability or peace or progress in this country.

You have been calling for Nigeria’s restructuring for many years. Why does this appear difficult to realise?

It is because the people of this country don’t get themselves together. I don’t know whether to say they are docile or that they are afraid to exercise their rights. My fear, however, is that whether we like it or not, Nigeria, if not properly restructured, will go the way of Yugoslavia because we are a heterogeneous country and we cannot be properly or safely treated as a homogenous country. There are so many nationalities, cultures, sense of values, culture and, of course, the attitude to religion.

In the light of the forthcoming Ondo election, how would you assess the Edo election, in view of the protests that greeted the announcement of the results?

Well, Edo election is already past and gone but there is very little we can do about that so the people will just accept their fate and move on. However, I’m not too sure about Ondo. Anything can happen.

So, do you think INEC is as independent as its name suggests?

I doubt it very much.

Why do you doubt INEC’s independence?

Except the election that was held in 1993, when they used Operation A4, that was the time rigging was exceedingly minimised. But since then, before and after then, there has been no occasion when our elections are not contested. There has been no occasion when our census figures are not disputed. The government of this country is being, I don’t know, whether guided or being tutored by the West – Britain and America. So, the North has a think-tank in England and America. One of the members of the think-tank in America is the man who recently wrote a book on Buhari, John Paden. So, that is it. What has John Kerry come to do in Nigeria? He came and first visited Kano, then the president, then he met with the northern governors. For what purpose? Why are we kept in the dark? We should know.

But the South-West governors did not seem to raise eyebrows regarding Kerry’s visit…

The governors of the South-West, South-East and South-South still feel themselves subservient to the presidency because from time to time, they visit Abuja on appointments. However, they forget that they are not under the president. The body of persons which can control the state governor is the state House of Assembly; no more, no less. The president has no power to dictate to a state governor. That is the truth of the matter. But then, that would be so if really and truly we are running a federal system. We call ours a system federal but it is unitary.

In the light of Nigeria’s current economic recession, would you also align with the calls that legislators be on part-time duties?

Certainly! What are they doing there to make them entitle to huge amount of remuneration? They are all self-serving; they are not serving the interest of Nigeria. Even the very composition of the Senate is most unfortunate. Yes, they should be paid sitting allowance and nothing more. You have a senator having two, three, four vehicles, then allowance. How many voters in their constituencies have such accumulation of vehicles? You find a senator who had no bicycle before he became senator having houses and cars all over the place. It is a pity, but I want to assure you of something; all those who are making Nigeria difficult to govern, making Nigeria unstable, making Nigeria economically weak, in their self-interests, are going to suffer. They are going to suffer so much for what they have done because what you sow, you reap. If something is wrong and you’re doing it for your own interest, you will be punished for it. We will be deceiving ourselves if we think that the wrong we do will go unpunished. Nobody can escape that. olaniwun1The other time, the children of Israel were in Egypt for many years suffering because they were reaping what they sowed. That was the order of God. But when God was satisfied that they had suffered enough, he raised a leader who rescued them. Moses, with all his weaknesses, was a very courageous leader. God made sure he was brought up for such position and all the obstacles were cleared in the presence of Pharaoh, up till the point of leaving Egypt, even with the crossing of the Red Sea.

How do you think Nigeria got into recession and what do you think is the way out?

Well, you know that so much money has been recovered from those who stole our money both here and overseas. Secondly, we relied on one-land industry – oil. I am very happy that something is happening to that oil. What I would pray to God for is that the oil dries up, then we will learn our lessons. Why should we have one-land industry? Agriculture is there, from which we can have so many businesses. We are principally an agricultural country. Why should we suffer? Why should we hunger? Why should we be unemployed? Few days ago, I was talking to someone and he told me his would-be wife studied communication in the university and now, the wife is doing tailoring because there was no job for her and she is making money from that. There are university graduates in shoe making and furniture. I was reading in the papers today of a Nigerian who performed a medical miracle outside Nigeria. We are missing such people. When they train abroad, they stay away. But then, which country would develop without the use of its intellectuals? That’s the problem. This place is not conducive for work for our sons and daughters. But, that’s the doing of our government. And of course, if we ask the powers-that-be, they would say this is democracy. It is only by word of mouth; we are not practising democracy. All the legs of democracy are crippled – the judiciary, executive, national assembly, even the press and the police. We have a constitution in which we have what we call Code of Conduct. Are we following that?

Days ago, the Senate decided to tinker with the provisions of the act guiding the Code of Conduct Tribunal. Are you satisfied with such, considering the trial of the Senate President and his deputy?

How could I be satisfied? The two you mentioned – the Senate President and his deputy – how did they get to those positions in the first place? Did they get there as one would expect a Senate to be constituted? Certainly not. The presidency is watching the Senate and the Senate is watching the presidency. Everyone is being careful. That is where we are. These people sometimes forget that there is God and that Jesus is operating just as Mohammed is operating. My question now is that if Mohammed were to come now and ask the Senate President if he is running affairs righteously and in the interest of the masses and the country, I’m sure he will be dumbfounded. Same question for all of them.

As a former Commissioner for Education in the defunct Western Region, do you think the proposed 5-year jail term for lecturers caught sexually harassing their students is adequate?

The very fact that such person is going to jail is enough, even for one day. Then, he has scored a very black mark for himself and his family.

We are approaching 2019. What mood do you foresee for the major political parties?

Anything can happen. It is possible for some conflict and unrest to arise. I know this is a country which God Almighty loves so much, but we are behaving like children who have no home training. We just do things as we like. It is a great pity. Then of course, it won’t be a problem to God Almighty to get rid of those who are here completely and put some other people here. I used to read about the Lost Continent. See also the example of Sodom and Gomorrah. It can happen anywhere. Of course, I want to assure you that the role which the West is playing in the affairs of their former colonies, they are going to pay for it. See the example of Egypt, where everything in ancient times began. How about the Roman and Greek Empires today? Empires rise and they fall. I don’t think there’s any country so blessed like America but they will go down. When, I don’t know. But they have to pay as a consequence of what they’re doing. To all of us, it was a great surprise for a black man to become the president of America. However, there was a lesson which President Barack Obama should have learnt which he unfortunately didn’t. It was to show the world that God was in charge. Obama made some important achievements. However, when preparing for second term, he gave some support to homosexual relations, which is against what God wanted. They won’t go unpunished for that. The punishment will be upon the black people. It will take a very long time for another black man to become president of the USA because we abused the opportunity God gave us.

What is your take on the two major USA presidential candidates,  Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump?

Well, I prayerfully hope that Hilary would win. She is more cultured in the way she conducted her campaign. If Trump wins, then maybe you and I would be in very serious trouble. The way he talks, behaves, is unlike a president. Unfortunately, the contest is very close. However, I hope and pray that Hilary wins.

Opinion: AMERICA ELECTION AND THE REST OF THE WORLD, By AbdulRahman Agboola

Opinion: AMERICA ELECTION AND THE REST OF THE WORLD, By AbdulRahman Agboola

TRUMPH AND CLINTON
Will it amount to sarcasm to express that the world is at peace, not really, considering the obvious signals of third world war that must be averted in the interest of world peace. Without peace, infrastructural development and socio-economic growth remains mere classroom discussions as the only panacea to progress and productivity is peace. Peace is relative as a term and in usage, philosophers classified that; peace is not absence of conflict but presence of justice.
The race to the white house has opened a new chapter in the history of presidential election campaign in America. As a matter of immediate history in America, there seems to be record of power rotation between the Democrats and Republicans usually every eight years. On few occasions when the trend would have changed, certain factors sustained that trend, but recent events speak volume of what the western world really means about America Interest.

There are Countries regarded as world power, America is among the strongest, it has been America versus the rest of the world in the last two decades. America government has influence in core decisions on economy and safety of several countries of the world. Under the guise of a model for democracy globally, the country provides essential services in shaping political decisions and actions across the globe.

Invariably, whatever concern Americans is a global concern, that is the wave of the moment and until another stronger world power surface, America will continue to be the concern of majority. The America renowned for campaign of issues and strong presentations of factual direction for improving the welfares of countrymen at election period has gradually shifted from the path of hope to despair, just because the two leading presidential candidates can be classified as characters with different weaknesses and antecedents.

There is this notion that America government under the Democrats improves America Economy and avoids wars and collisions with other countries, while America government under the Republicans shakes the world with oppressive tendencies and wages war. There are diverse views to this hypothesis, the eight years of President George Bush spilled bloods through invasion of several countries and the consequences are still fresh and difficult to bear for the victims of America invasion in those climes. The eight years of President Obama deviated from that trend and apart from germane isolated cases; the Obama Presidency undertook peacekeeping missions, prerogative of mercy and diplomacy, than naked use of power like his predecessor.

The November 8 America Presidential Election has been characterized by campaign of calumny, mudslinging and insult trades between Hilary Clinton-former Secretary of States who is the Democratic Party Presidential Candidate and Donald Trump the Republican Party Presidential Candidate. Obviously, the duo of Hilary and Donald are the most intellectually equipped Americans qualified to be America President, certain factors imposed them as the frontrunners, but those factors now queries the intelligence and ultimate concerns of the electorates to determine the more suitable President among these two candidates.

In China in 1966, through the platform of the Red Guards, there was a cultural revolution that led to human tragedy, there are regrets and gains for China as a result of that occurrence. The daily records of human tragedy across the globe today is really scary, the world is no longer safe as it used to be, we are now threatened with nuclear weapons that can wipe countries away within few minutes.

The greatest achievement of Obama Presidency is world safety under his watch, his diplomatic dispositions maintained cordiality with other world powers in the midst of serious contentions and rivalry. The Russia and the Iran are diplomatically contained as a result of the maturity potentials exhibited by Obama and all his legacies bequeathed to Americans and the rest of us are now under threat.

Donald Trump has vowed to drain  the dam in Washington DC, Obama Health Care Policies to be repealed, Africa deserves to be colonized again and there will no longer be freedom of religion again in America, as mentioned by Donald Trump in the cause of electoral campaigns. Donald Trump has exhibited the ancient white supremacist tendencies and will probably engage Russia and Iran in battle of supremacy which will be too difficult for the world to bear.

The fact remains that Hilary Clinton represents the continuation of Obama legacies; her antecedents clearly classified her as a peace maker with safety and security consciousness to the protections of Americans and the rest of the world. In terms of political experience and exposures, she has proved her wits, expertise and deep knowledge of domestic and international needs required from America President.

Where Hilary will be liberal on notable issues like Immigration and social services, Donald has vowed to rule with iron fist against Africans in particular. The race to the white house has reached a critical stage and the finest President in the history of America has warned on the danger a Donald Trump Presidency portends to the whole world.

The Republicans are hopeful of a return to power to reconstitute America as a bully as witnessed years ago, the Democrats are fearful of the end of a good reign that will smear the image of America. The judgment was informed by assessment of both conducts and dispositions of these two leading candidates in the last few weeks.

Where front liners on gender equality intend seizing the opportunity in America to score the highest political points with a Hilary victory, the masculine proponents are hiding their fears with the possibility of resting the most strategic world power in care of Hilary. If feminism is coming to the greatest task in America for the first time, Hilary’s candour, humility and sense of humanity position her as a good candidate for that litmus test.

To imagine an egocentric racist with highest pride as America President is the greatest nightmare for conscious people. History has taught Africans in particular never to trust white supremacist, they admit us into their folds just for our little importance to the growth of their Country while we underdeveloped ourselves. Whether Africans bows to women authority is not the issue at stake, how capable is Hilary to provide good and efficient leadership for America is the question.

There is a joker in America election, Obama will be the loser if Hilary fails to secure the required votes to emerge as America President, and his legacies will be wiped off by the white supremacist with targets to forbid a black man from ever becoming America President again. President Obama will surely be victorious again, I trust he will assist Hilary not just to defeat Donald Trump, but to entrench a new order in America with a new record that after a black man ruled America, a woman succeeded that black man in the white house- a situation very difficult to fathom just ten years ago.

The rest of world are not just mere lookers, we should learn new things from America Election, the issues raised against Hilary Clinton bothers on sense of judgment and not competence to rule America, when will the rest of the world be seriously conscious on basis of judgments by our leaders before reposing  confidence in them and earn peoples trust.

In our clime, how many of our former first ladies whether at State or Federal level can boast of the credentials and competence of Hilary Clinton. When will our women advance from political meddlesome to proper conducts and position themselves strategically to compete with men in the political space.

The Dire Consequences Should Trump Wins - Clinton, Obama Warn US Electorates

The Dire Consequences Should Trump Wins - Clinton, Obama Warn US Electorates

The Dire Consequences Should Trump Wins

Hillary Clinton painted a grim picture of life under a Donald Trump presidency Wednesday, warning undecided voters as the ever tighter White House race entered its final five-day stretch.

Clinton made an optimistic choice in staging a huge rally in Arizona, a swing state she hopes to poach from the Republicans, but the Democrat’s tone was grim as she invited voters to envisage her defeat.

“Imagine it is January 20, 2016 and imagine that it is Donald Trump standing in front of the Capitol,” she told a 15,000-strong crowd in Tempe, triggering a chorus of boos for her Republican opponent.

“Imagine that he is taking the oath of office and then imagine that he is in the Oval Office making the decisions that affect your lives and your future,” she said.

Clinton painted a picture of Trump as a president who demeans women, exacerbates racial divisions and is so thin-skinned and unpredictable that he could “start a real war instead of a Twitter war.”

The note of caution was echoed by President Barack Obama, who warned voters that America’s very future was at stake. He will duel with Trump on Thursday when they hold rival rallies in Florida.

“The fate of the republic rests on your shoulders,” he declared in North Carolina, one of a handful of swing states where the race will be decided.

“The fate of the world is teetering and you, North Carolina, are going to have to make sure that we push it in the right direction,” Obama declared.

The 70-year-old Republican, by contrast, treated supporters in Florida to a now familiar tirade, predicting Clinton’s downfall and vowing to “drain the swamp” of corruption in Washington.

Appearing before fans at a triumphal rally in Pensacola, Trump stuck closely to his well- rehearsed stump speech focused on his “contract with America, a plan to end government corruption.”

And he boasted that many opinion-makers and voters are now flocking to his standard.

“We’re only left with one person, crooked Hillary Clinton. We’re going to win. We’re going to win.”

Such talk — partly supported by one poll on Tuesday showing him moving slightly ahead of Clinton — has delighted America’s foes, made its allies queasy and spooked financial markets.

Trump has been battered by scandals that would have sunk a less brazen showman: accused of sexual assault, of not paying taxes and of ties to Russia’s Vladimir Putin and the mob.

But renewed FBI scrutiny of Clinton’s use of a private email server when secretary of state has fired up the Republican’s raucous fan base and fed doubts about the Democrat’s trustworthiness.

– Foregone conclusion –

US markets have not responded well. The Dow fell 0.4 percent and the broader S&P 500 was off 0.7 percent at the close. Earlier major markets in Asia and Europe had tumbled more than one percent.

The dollar continued to slip against the euro, losing 0.3 percent to $1.1093, while the Mexican peso — sensitive to Trump’s threat to build a wall on the country’s border — lost one percent.

The dramatic tightening in the opinion polls also frightened bookmakers. Ireland’s Paddy Power had already paid out $1 million to punters who bet on Clinton, assuming her victory a foregone conclusion.

But on Wednesday, the firm said 91 percent of bets now favor Trump, whose odds have narrowed.

This week, US Secretary of State John Kerry admitted the campaign has been “downright embarrassing” as he deals with America’s friends and foes abroad, and the latter are in full voice.

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei — whose regime paints America as a comic-book foe — crowed that the “catastrophic reality” of the candidates “goes beyond what even we were saying.”

In Britain, a giant effigy of Trump wielding the head of his rival Clinton was to be burned during traditional November 5 bonfire night celebrations.

– Long-shot bets –

The long and often unedifying 2016 race is now being fought in a few corners of a few states, most notably Florida, Ohio and North Carolina.

These three states offer the best chance for both candidates to cross the winning threshold of 270 out of 538 electoral college votes.

But the two hopefuls have also placed some final long-shot bets.

Clinton traveled to Arizona, which Democrats haven’t won since 1996 when her husband Bill claimed the presidency by a landslide.

An Emerson poll on Wednesday had Clinton losing the state by only four percentage points, and both of its Republican senators oppose Trump, offering the prospect of a shock Clinton win.

Meanwhile, Trump has raised eyebrows by campaigning in Wisconsin and Michigan, both traditionally Democratic states where polls show Clinton leading by six points or more.

And he spent most of Wednesday in Florida — which is likely to make-or-break his presidential dreams — and was to remain there Thursday seeking to build momentum before the dash for the finish line.

There'll be World War III if Clinton Is Elected - Donald Trump Warns

Trump and Clinton
Donald Trump has warned of a World War if Hillary Clinton is elected as president and her policies on ISIS, and the Syrian conflicts are implemented.

Democratic Party U.S Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton revealed during the last presidential election debate that the U.S will create no-fly zones in Syrian airspace in order to combat ISIS and also allow for peace and normality to return to the already war-torn Syria and it's citizens.

If a no-fly zone is implemented by the U.S on Syrian airspace and a Russian jet flies on the airspace, the U.S have the right to shoot it down, a move that could cause war between both nations and Trump on Tuesday warned that Hillary Clinton would surely cause a World War III if elected as president.

"What we should do is focus on ISIS. We should not be focusing on Syria," Trump told Reuters on Tuesday morning at his resort in Doral, Florida.

"You're going to end up in World War III over Syria if we listen to Hillary Clinton."

"You're not fighting Syria anymore, you're fighting Syria, Russia and Iran, all right? Russia is a nuclear country, but a country where the nukes work as opposed to other countries that talk," he said.

Trump also said Clinton's claim that he was Putin's 'puppet' in the last presidential election debate was a very naive one because anyone who becomes president will have to negotiate with Russia's president Putin in order to have World peace, but how do you do that 'when you've painted him badly?

"How is she going to go back and negotiate with this man who she has made to be so evil."

Mr Trump's warning of confrontation with Russia echoes concerns raised last month at a congressional hearing by the highest-ranking military officer in the US military.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Marine Gen Joseph Dunford told lawmakers a "no-fly zone" in Syria could spell war with Russia.

"Right now, senator, for us to control all of the airspace in Syria it would require us to go to war, against Syria and Russia," Gen Dunford told the Senate Arms Services Committee.

"That's a pretty fundamental decision that certainly I'm not going to make."

The Clinton campaign on Tuesday evening pushed back against Trump's 'World War III rhetoric.
"National security experts on both sides of the aisle have denounced Donald Trump as dangerously ill-prepared and temperamentally unfit to serve as commander-in-chief," Clinton spokesman Jesse Lehrich said. "Once again, he is parroting Putin's talking points and playing to Americans' fears, all while refusing to lay out any plans of his own for defeating ISIS or alleviating humanitarian suffering in Syria. Moreover, this incendiary attack is aimed at a policy that his own running mate, Mike Pence, strongly supports."

Trump also said that the election can't be lost to Hillary if the Republican party had unity.

"If we had party unity, we couldn't lose this election to Hillary Clinton," he told Reuters.

"The people are very angry with the leadership of this party, because this is an election that we will win 100% if we had support from the top," he said.

"I think we're going to win it anyway."

Watch Full Video & 14 Highlights Of US 2016 Final Presidential Debate; All You've Missed Here

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton US 2016 Final Presidential Debate
Asked if he would accept the results of the election, Mr. Trump — who has repeatedly predicted a “rigged” system could doom him — refused to commit. “I will look at it at the time,” he said, before suggesting without evidence that wide-scale voter fraud and a media conspiracy could affect the outcome. Mrs. Clinton called these remarks “horrifying.” She noted that Mr. Trump had a long history of claiming that forces were aligned against him, recalling his complaint when he did not receive an Emmy award for his television show, among other gripes. “Should have gotten it,” Mr. Trump said.

• The moderator cited estimates that both candidates’ plans would increase the national debt. Mr. Trump rejected that analysis, saying he could “create tremendous jobs” and construct “an economic machine” to power growth. Mrs. Clinton likewise said she would “not add a penny to the national debt.” Asked next about entitlement spending, Mr. Trump switched to a discussion of the Affordable Care Act, which he said he wanted to repeal. When Mrs. Clinton tweaked her opponent for evading taxes, Mr. Trump interjected: “Such a nasty woman,” he said.

• Mrs. Clinton, speaking about her support for some gun control measures, said she saw “no conflict between saving people’s lives and defending the Second Amendment.” She added that the National Rifle Association was running “millions of dollars of ads against me.” Mr. Trump said he was unsure if Mrs. Clinton had referenced the group’s support for him “in a sarcastic manner,” but that he was “very proud” of it.

• Asked about the role of the Supreme Court, Mrs. Clinton said she expected the court to “represent all of us,” citing the importance of marriage equality and abortion rights. She added that she hoped that “the Senate would do its job and confirm the nominee that President Obama has sent to them.” Mr. Trump, answering the same question, said, “The Supreme Court, that’s what it’s all about,” before suggesting Mrs. Clinton would hope to steer the court away from adherence to the Second Amendment.

• Mrs. Clinton focused attention on Mr. Trump’s past comments that, if abortion were outlawed, there should be “some form of punishment” for the women involved. After Mrs. Clinton was pressed on her support for late-term abortions under certain circumstances — she cited the health of prospective mothers — Mr. Trump said he thought it was “terrible.” “If you go with what Hillary is saying, in the ninth month you can take the baby and rip the baby out of the womb of the mother,” he said.

• Mr. Trump held forth on his signature issue — immigration — suggesting that the heroin crisis in some pockets of the country owed to insufficient border security. “We have to have strong borders,” he said, adding, “We have some bad hombres.” Mrs. Clinton said that while her immigration plan “of course includes border security,” she did not want to see “the deportation force that Donald has talked about.”

• Mrs. Clinton suggested Mr. Trump was a hypocrite on the issue of immigration, saying he had “used undocumented labor to build the Trump Tower.” When the moderator, Chris Wallace, quoted from a paid Clinton speech — citing an excerpt revealed by WikiLeaks in which she said she dreamed of “open trade and open borders” — Mrs. Clinton said she was “talking about energy.”

• Mrs. Clinton said a more pressing issue from the leaked documents was the specter of the Russian government engaging in “espionage against Americans,” suggesting that Russian President Vladimir V. Putin has a “clear favorite in this race.” “That was a great pivot off the fact that she wants open borders,” Mr. Trump said, adding, “I don’t know Putin.” Mrs. Clinton said Mr. Putin would prefer “a puppet as president of the United States.” Mr. Trump shot back, “You’re the puppet.”

• After Mr. Trump said Mr. Putin had “outsmarted and outplayed” Mrs. Clinton on the international stage, Mrs. Clinton moved to cast Mr. Trump as too unstable to be president, saying he had been distressingly cavalier about the use of nuclear weapons. “Wrong,” Mr. Trump interjected, reprising an interruption from the first debate.

• As the discussion turned to the economy, Mrs. Clinton said Mr. Trump’s plans amounted to “trickle-down economics on steroids.” Mr. Trump, after taking credit for more active participation from international trade partners — “all the sudden they’re paying,” he said — suggested he would produce national prosperity by renegotiating trade deals.

• After Mrs. Clinton said President Obama did not get the credit he deserved for improving economic conditions since taking office, she allowed that Americans were “standing, but we’re not yet running.” Mr. Trump, placing blame for many Americans’ financial struggles on trade policy under Bill Clinton, said the country was “stagnant.” Mrs. Clinton accused Mr. Trump of crying “crocodile tears” about the American work force despite using Chinese steel on construction projects.

• Addressing the many accusations of sexual assault against him, Mr. Trump said, “I don’t know those people,” calling the accounts “totally false.” “I didn’t even apologize to my wife, who’s sitting right here, because I didn’t do anything,” he said, accusing Mrs. Clinton of stoking the claims. Mrs. Clinton seized on Mr. Trump’s recent insinuations that he could not have assaulted some of the women because they were not attractive enough. “Donald thinks belittling women makes him bigger,” she said. “I don’t think there’s a woman anywhere who doesn’t know what that feels like.”

• When Mr. Trump sought to pivot to a discussion of Mrs. Clinton’s use of a private email server when she was secretary of state, Mrs. Clinton accused him of dodging responsibility for his own actions. “He never apologizes or says he’s sorry for anything,” she said, noting his insults of a Gold Star family, a reporter with a physical disability and a judge with Mexican heritage, among others. “It’s not one thing, this is a pattern,” she said.

Fact Checks of the Third Presidential Debate
Reporters for The New York Times fact-checked the statements made by Hillary Clinton and Donald J. Trump during Wednesday’s presidential debate.

• Mr. Trump accused Mrs. Clinton of misdeeds at the Clinton Foundation, asking her to return donations from countries with a record of human rights abuses. Mrs. Clinton said she would be “happy to compare what we do with the Trump Foundation,” recalling the use of Trump Foundation funds to purchase a large portrait of its namesake. “Who does that?” she asked. When Mr. Trump said the foundation’s money was dedicated to charitable giving, Mrs. Clinton noted that his claims were impossible to verify because he had not released his tax returns.

• After Mr. Trump accused Mrs. Clinton of helping to destabilize the Middle East, citing her vote for the Iraq war, among other decisions, Mrs. Clinton reminded voters that Mr. Trump had expressed support for the invasion. “Google, ‘Donald Trump Iraq,’” she said. Mr. Trump repeatedly cut in to say, “Wrong.”

• The candidates sparred over refugee policy, with Mr. Trump predicting security crises if Mrs. Clinton were elected. “This is going to be the great Trojan horse,” Mr. Trump said, discussing Syrian refugees. “Lots of luck, Hillary.” Mrs. Clinton said she would not allow anyone into the country without appropriate vetting but added, “I am not going to slam the door on women and children.”

• Offered a chance to give closing remarks, the candidates hewed closely to their campaign trail messages. Mrs. Clinton spoke about improving the lives of families, saying she hoped Americans would “give me a chance to serve as your president.” Mr. Trump began, “She’s raising the money from the people she wants to control. Doesn’t work that way.” He said he would “make America great,” touching on what he called a “depleted military” and urban conditions where “you get shot walking to the store.”
