Amidst speculations and rumours over his death, President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday called and spoke with the minister of youth and sports development, Solomon Dalung, from London, where he is currently on vacation.

The president called to commiserate with the minister over the death of his wife, Mrs Briskila Dalung, who died after a brief illness in the early hours of January 29, 2017 in Jos, Plateau State.

President Buhari, who spoke to Dalung through the telephone, prayed God to grant the soul of the departed eternal rest.

The special assistant, media, to the minister, Nneka Anibeze, in a statement on behalf of the minister, said the president expressed shock at the death of Mrs Dalung at an unripe age and prayed that God would forgive her sins.

He also prayed to God to give the family she left behind the fortitude to bear the loss and promised to support the Dalung family in their moment of grief.

Dalung had on Sunday, announced the death of his wife on his Facebook page, with a post which reads: “I AM BEREAVED:  For it is appointed for man to live thereafter comes death and judgement says the Holy Bible. While in the Quran, it states that it is appointed that every soul shall taste death.

“My heart is heavy, I cannot continue, I lost my first wife this morning. May her soul and the souls of the faithful departed rest in the bosom of the lord, amen. What a black Sunday.”

There have been speculations about the president’s health since he left the country for his annual leave, with a section of the population calling on him to address the nation from his holiday destination. This is in spite of several photographs of the president receiving guests including Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun.

The president’s wife, Hajiya Aisha Buhari also visited him in London last weekend.

Special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, had in a statement announcing the president’s leave, said that: “During the vacation, the President will also undergo routine medical check-ups.”

He is expected to resume work on February 6, 2017.

Sympathisers from all walks of life have continued to troop Dalung’s Abuja residence to condole with him over the  unfortunate occurrence.

Among the early callers were the Ministers of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonaya Onu; Minister of FCT Mohammed Musa Bello; Minister of State for Solid Minerals, Mohammed Abubakar Bawa Bwari; Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Affairs, Hon Gideon Samani; and Ambassador Anthem Wuyep.

Others are President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Engr Habu Gumel; a former governorship aspirant in Plateau State, Architect John Alkali; immediate past permanent secretary of the Ministry of Youth & Sports Development, Christian Chinyeaka Oha; and Director-general of the National Sports Institute (NSI), Dr Chukwu Eke, amongst others.

Earlier in the day, Dalung was welcomed back home from London and condoled by the entire directors of the ministry, led by the acting permanent secretary, Mr Abdul Razak Salawu.

Although final arrangements for the burial of the late Mrs Dalung were still being worked out by the family, it is certain that her burial would take place at Sabongida, Langtang South local government area of Plateau State on Saturday, February 4, 2017.

She is survived by five children and her husband.

2019: 3 Igbo PDP Govs Set To Join APC, Ken Nnamani Appointed Southeast Leader, Adopt Buhari's 2nd Term Presidency

2019: 3 Igbo PDP Govs Set To Join APC, Ken Nnamani Appointed Southeast Leader, Adopt Buhari's 2nd Term Presidency

3 Igbo PDP Govs Set To Join APC
Three governors of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in the Southeastern region of Nigeria are prepared to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

This revelation was made by the Imo State Governor, Rochas Owelle Okorocha shortly after the Southeast frontier leaders and politicians held a meeting where it was agreed to back President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term come 2019.

They said they will only gun for the plum office after expiration of the president’s second term.

These were the highpoints after a brainstorming session in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

The decisions came on the heels of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s clamour for Igbo Presidency in 2019.

At the well attended meeting, a former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, emerged leader of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Southeast.

It was also disclosed that three current governors in the zone will be joining the APC soon.

Those in attendance at the meeting held at the Imo International Convention Centre (IICC) were: Ken Nnamani, Emeka Offor, Ifeanyi Araraume,  George Moughalu, Tony Eze, Ebuka Onunkwo, Jombo Offor, Eze Madumere, members of the National Working Committee of APC, as well as other prominent politicians from the zone.

Speaking after a closed door meeting, the host governor, Rochas Okorocha, said: “Now that Igbo leaders are together in APC, Nigerians will hear us.

“There is a vaccum of leadership in the South-East APC. I am a Governor. My brothers Chris Ngige and Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu are ministers.

“Hence the importance of Ken Nnamani coming at this time. I declined leadership of Ndi-Igbo in APC.

“With Ken Nnamani, the question of who is the leader of APC in the Southeast has been answered. Ken Nnamani is the leader of APC in the South-East.”

He went on: “Senator Nnamani should then work with other leaders like Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Jim Nwobodo and a host of others to give Ndi-Igbo Political direction.

“Those who have joined the Party or who want to join should do so to build the Party and not to cause Confusion. APC is the right Party for the Igbo and the only Party that can guarantee Igbo Presidency”.

He went: “We are going to support President Muhammadu Buhari for the eight years he is going to lead the nation.

“This is the time for Ndi-Igbo to come and work together. We are also going to use the Anambra election to show that APC has arrived Southeast.

“The Igbo played bad politics in 2015. Today we have lost a lot. We are not anywhere because of our bad politics.”

Okorocha also disclosed three governors in the zone were in touch with him to join the APC soon.

He added that being the only APC governor in the Southeast does not give him joy and advised that other political leaders in the geopolitical zone should take “advantage of the moment and come into APC.”

Nnamani said the Igbo need more of their leaders at the National leadership of the APC where decisions are taken and at the National Assembly and other strategic areas.

The former Senate President stressed: “Some of us going into APC are not doing so because of hunger but in the interest of the Igbos.

“We should play politics of ideas and avoid abusive words. Ndi-Igbo do not have the ingredients for opposition politics.

“We do not have the media or business or money to play opposition politics but we won’t ask for handouts.”

He continued: “How the Yorubas voted in 2015 should be an eye-opener. They voted both sides but the South-East put their eggs in one basket.

“I am not of the view that everybody should be in APC but those have seen the need should do so.

“If Governor Okorocha has realised that he needs more hands in APC, he should be commended. We are worst enemies of ourselves.

“If we work together we will go very very far. This is the time to play national politics.”

Nnamani said: “Some people could say we have the Deputy Senate President but he does not attend the meeting of APC caucus where important decisions are taken.

“We must think ahead. The benefit of that office is therefore personal and does not enhance the political fortunes of the South-East people”.

The rumoured death of President Muhammadu Buhari has continued to spark up controversies among a section of Nigerians on the social media.

This is coming after the new picture, which was posted on Friday night, showed the president in a relaxed mood with some of his visitors, including Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun.

The new photos were posted on Facebook Friday night by President Buhari’s personal assistant, Bashir Ahmad and another user, Buhari Sallau.

Sallau captioned the photos: “Today in London President Muhammadu Buhari with some guests, among them Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun…. yet, Some Haters are saying the President is dead or sick in hospital.”

But there are strong indications that the photos are old because immediately the photos were shared, some analysts expressed their reservation, many of whom have said the photo was from President Buhari’s visit to the UK last year.

A user, Jeffy Jeff commented: “I don’t wish Mr President dead but this pic was taken at his previous trip to London on health ground when Atiku visited him.”

Another, Prince Adetunji Adepoju Adedinni, claimed Amosun was in Ogun state yesterday and couldn’t have been in the UK.

He wrote, ”Gov. Amosun is currently in Ogun state and that is him on the seat there. How come? This pic was a visit of his last visit when Amosun visited him.

“The IG and top police officers went on Tuesday, the governors are making plans to go too and they want us to believe all is well with the president?? Why is this sudden visit to a man who left the country just few days ago and should be on his way back to the country in few days from now? What are they going to hurriedly tell him that is not worth waiting or probably put a call through to him in UK??

“I can’t believe some Nigerians could be this gullible! Something is fishy and the earlier we are informed about it, the better.”

Another user, Muhammad M Yusuf wrote: “Another lie busted. Who is fooling who?”

Wilfred E. Okeke: “Mr. Bashir kindly say something on this comment. Am so confused.”

Magu: President Buhari Should not Take Nigerians for Granted - ASJA

Ibrahim magu
The Advocates for Social Justice for All, ASJA has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to rescind his decision on the recent sending of the name of Ibrahim magu back to the Senate for confirmation as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
ASJA urged Buhari not to take Nigerians forgranted

ASJA Executive Secretary, Torkuma Venatius who spoke with newsmen in Abuja said Nigerians cannot watch and allow this government of change go down the drain.

"More so, having laboured as individuals and groups, without any pay, to make the President Muhammadu Buhari's government a reality, it will be irresponsible of us to stand akimbo and watch the collective will and aspirations of Nigerians dashed because of one man.

'Like as stated in previous press briefings by well meaning Nigerians, we maintain that it is our collective desire to kill corruption before the dreaded vice destroys whatever remains as our core values in Nigeria and we again state categorically that as an organisation, we have nothing personal against the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Mustafa Magu.

"However, President Muhammadu Buhari must know that his insistence on confirmation of Acting chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Mustafa Magu by the Senate has become a joke taken too far.
"This is a man rejected by the Senate based on unfavourble security report. Are we doubting the integrity of our security report? How will the countries of the world see Nigeria as a country?
"Magu's renomination by the President is least expected. And we are now forced to ask: is Mr. Ibrahim Magu the only qualified police man in Borno State? We are sure that if we go to Magu's village today, we shall find an equally qualified, if not better qualified, police officer.

"So, if Mr. President has zoned the position of EFCC Chairman to Magu's village, we assure him that he will find a man or woman of integrity within the federal law enforcement agencies in Magu's family.

"For Mr. President to believe that Ibrahim Magu is the only person with the qualities of an EFCC chairman amounts to taking Nigerians for granted and reducing the anti-corruption fight to an individual.

"It makes a mockery of Nigeria in the eyes of the global community and portrays Nigeria as a country of incompetent people.

"For the records, we are saying that Magu is guilty of some charges as may be contained on the security report coupled with the fact that a federal security agency has kicked against his confirmation through a security report speaks volumes.

"Mr. President will be belittling the anti-corruption crusade of his government and throwing caution to the iwind if he continues to insist on Mr. Ibrahim Magu's confirmation as EFCC Chairman.
"We hereby call on the Nigerian Senate to immediately reject the renomination of Mr. Ibrahim Magu for the chairmanship of EFCC to regain the confidence of the Nigerian people" he said

NLC Doubts President Buhari Is Still Alive; Here's What They Say

NLC Doubts President Buhari Is Still Alive; Here's What They Say

As controversies and confusion continue to trail the health status and the death rumour of President Muhammadu Buhari, the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC has challenged the President to speak to Nigerians, if he is not dead as rumoured.

The NLC, in reaction to a comment by presidential adviser on media, Femi Adesina, that no one can force Buhari to speak, noted that public appearance by the country’s leader would put to rest rumors of his death.‎

General Secretary of the NLC, Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson, told Punch that “In the social media, stories circulate without confirmation; I think that the easiest way is to talk publicly to the nation because the citizens are concerned about their leaders’ whereabouts.

“If there are those who orchestrated rumours and they are not true, the easiest way is for him to reach out to Nigerians through a public appearance and a statement.

“Nigerians have a right to be certain about the health situation of their President and the people who orchestrate rumours and unsubstantiated reports, one would wish for him to call their bluff by publicly addressing the citizens.”

In his reaction, Executive Secretary, Anti-corruption Network, Ebenezer Oyetakin, faulted the call for Buhari to address the nation.

He said, “I do not subscribe to that. It smacks of mischief from such people. We are Africans. We have cultural discipline on some issues.

“He has done the appropriate thing by handing over to the VP as Acting President. Let us be patient and maintain a sense of decorum and respect to the institution of governance.’’

BREAKING: conFUSioN As Buhari's Death Reports Take New Turn, Forces Presidency, FG To Release New Statements

BREAKING: conFUSioN As Buhari's Death Reports Take New Turn, Forces Presidency, FG To Release New Statements

Muhammadu Buhari
The Presidency on Thursday again faulted the media reports President Muhammadu Buhari was sick.

There was fear and confusion in the country during the weekend when report cropped up in a section of the media that the president has passed on at the age of 74.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, in an interview with CNBC Africa, insisted that Buhari’s trip to London was not on medical ground.

He said, “The President is in London on vacation. He is not in any hospital and he is not ill.

“When he was travelling last week, the statement we put out was that he was going on vacation and during the vacation, he would do routine medical check-up and nothing has changed from what we pushed out last week.

“If anybody has fed something else into the rumour mill, that is just what it is — rumour.”

Asked if Buhari would be willing to talk to Nigerians from the UK, Adesina said such a decision could only be taken by the President himself.

“The fact that he is a President, he still has his rights. Compelling him to come out and talk will be infringing on his rights.

“The President will talk if he wishes to. If he doesn’t wish to, nobody will compel him to talk.

“The truth is that the President is on vacation and he has given a date on which he will return to work,’’ Adesina said.

Meanwhile, Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Thursday dismissed reports saying state governors were planning to send a delegation to confirm the health status of President Muhammadu Buhari in London.

The media was recently awashed with report Buhari’s death, but the Presidency had since denied.

Latest reports had it that state governors had a meeting in Abuja where they planned to send emissary to the United Kingdom in a bid to clarify the Presidency’s claim.

But Mohammed while speaking with members of the Presidential Committee on the Northeast Initiative’s Sub Committee on Economic Development, said there was no need for such emissary because the President is in good shape.

In a statement sent by his Special Adviser, Segun Adeyemi, the Minister, according to Daily Post said, “I think it is very much in order to use this opportunity to debunk the report in a section of the press today (Thursday) that Governors are meeting in Abuja and they will at the end of the meeting send an emissary to London to see President Buhari.

“I want to say categorically and emphatically that there is no iota of truth in this. Governors are not meeting here in Abuja because there is no need for it and there is no plan to send any emissary to London to see the President. Again I want to say that the President is hale and hearty in London where he is observing his 10-day vacation.”
