Ondo PDP Governorship Appeal Against Jimoh Ibrahim, Here Is What The Court Says Today

Ondo PDP Governorship Appeal Against Jimoh Ibrahim, Here Is What The Court Says Today

eyitayo jegede
The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Wednesday reserved judgment in the appeal filed by the substituted governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, challenging his replacement with Jimoh Ibrahim who belongs to a rival faction of the PDP.

Acting on the orders made by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja on June 29 and October 14, 2016, the Independent National Electoral Commission had dropped Jegede who belongs to the Ahmed Makarfi-led faction and replaced him with Ibrahim as the party’s flag bearer of the party in the forthcoming November 26 election in Ondo State.

Ibrahim belongs to another faction of the PDP led by Ali Modu Sheriff.

The Justice Ibrahim Saulawa-led appeal panel allowed Jegede’s counsel, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), to adopt his client’s appellant’s brief, despite stiff opposition put up by the counsel for the first to ninth respondents in the case, Mr. Ben Nwofor (SAN).

Drama As Old Woman Buhari's Admirer Gifts Goat To The President In Benin

Old Woman Buhar's Admirer Gifts Goat To The President In Benin
President Muhammadu Buhari got a unique gift of a goat during his just-concluded two-day official visit to Edo State.

The goat was said to have been presented to Buhari by an elderly lady, Egbon Grace, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress in Ward 7, Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.

A government official told journalists on the condition of anonymity on Wednesday that the lady said she had longed to meet the President to show her admiration for “his selfless lifestyle and passion to liberate the masses.”

The official said opportunity came for the lady on Monday when Buhari inaugurated the ultra-modern Samuel Ogbemudia College in Benin City.

“Lady Grace braced the odds and came all the way with her surprise gift to Mr. President which she had kept in waiting for the special occasion.

“She tore through the thick crowd, making her way straight to the President who at the time had finished the official engagement and was heading for his waiting car.

“Many in the crowd got emotional seeing the elderly lady pull through the crowd with the goat, determined to make a presentation to the President,” the source said.

The source added that Governor Adams Oshiomhole who noticed the security cordon between the lady and the President, alighted from the President’s convoy to receive the goat on behalf of the President.

He said Grace later had an opportunity to interact briefly with  Buhari and the Governor.

She was said to have thanked the President for accepting the gift which was handed over to protocol officials.

In his remarks on behalf of the President,  Oshiomhole commended  Grace for her kind gesture.

Jonathan’s Wrong Parroting, In Wrong Climes, By Okanga Agila

Jonathan’s Wrong Parroting, In Wrong Climes, By Okanga Agila

goodluck jonathan
Former President Goodluck Jonathan seems to have broken his long silence since eviction from Aso Rock Villa last year. He has been quiet, watching in utter surprise the demystification and unveiling of the plague of his six-year reign of Nigeria’s ruination in all sectors by the APC- led government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Had the former President been silent to his grave, after supervising the castration of Nigeria, his beloved country, which he now claims unfounded love,he would have easily passed as a nice gentleman cum African leader whose silence is really golden.

But Jonathan is not contented that his wife and Nigeria’s former imperial first Lady, Mrs. Dame Patience Jonathan has not assaulted and insulted the sensibilities of Nigerians enough; so he must add to it.

His wife shocked Nigerians by admitting the millions of idle US Dollars found in bank accounts linked to her in 2016 were meant for her foreign medical treatment in 2013.Only a fool would think Jonathan is prodded by his wife to suddenly become chatty.

That former President Jonathan,as a sitting President meekly conceded defeat to his opposition winner of the 2015 presidential polls, President Buhari without protestations was not a preconceived decision. It was a circumstantial act ennobled by World Leaders and leaders of Foreign Election Observer Missions who pressured him to accept defeat.

His original intention was to scuttle full announcement of the Presidential election results,as his principal agent and former Minister for Niger Delta Affairs,Godsday Orubebe hinted by his actions in full glare of blistering media cameras.

But today and out of office,Jonathan speaks to the world or the international community, which is privy to this information haughtily as a mark of his political maturity and rare gesture to deepen democracy.

In January 2016,when Jonathan received the Martin Luther King’s Southern Christian Leadership Conference Award in Atlanta,USA, he proudly alluded to this act as his demonstration “….through action that nobody’s political ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian.”

Months later,in June 6, 2016,in a speech at the Bloomberg Studios in London,Jonathan re-echoed the same feeling more pungently;
“Some may think it is ironic that perhaps my proudest achievement was not winning the 2015 Presidential Election.”

From this standpoint of self-glorification, Jonathan is unashamedly attempting to recast a fresh narrative of the success of his administration, which Nigerians did not feel or experienced.

Again,in October 2016 Ex-President Jonathan delivered a speech on the promotion of youth entrepreneurship in Africa at Oxford Union. He dubiously seized the audience to trumpet his initiation of youth empowerment schemes, which in reality existed only in shadows and at best, served as conduit pipes for siphoning public funds by his trusted acolytes.

Away from the confines of office,Jonathan believes a nation’s citizenry, particularly, the youth can only create wealth if properly educated, “… because the richest people today are those who develop ideas and commercialize them. Viable ideas can only come from educated minds, and money pursues ideas.”

But Jonathan was one Nigerian leader who hated funding and promotion of education as President.United Nations has stipulated a devotion of 26 percent of annual budgets of developing countries to education. But under the ignominious Jonathan administration, education ministry would always peg the least in budgetary allocation.

Indeed,it is under his presidency that ASUU embarked on one of the longest strikes in the country's history, lasting for six months, over the implementation of the FGN/ASUU agreement of 2009.His late boss, President Umaru Yar’Adua initiated it and he inherited.

So,what was the wisdom in establishing the politically distributed 12 fresh conventional universities when it was clear from the grumbling of ASUU that existing ones could not be properly funded and lacked qualified teaching staff?

Former President Jonathan spoke about schemes he initiated to get youth busy and gainfully employed. Citing examples,he mentioned Youth Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria “YouWIN; ”the Youth Employment in Agriculture Program [YEAP] under his Agricultural Transformation Agenda, but conveniently refused to make any reference to the employees of SURE-P, which he refused pay or had their salary fund mortgaged to party bigwigs for his re-election campaigns. There were scores of protests from SURE-P labourers for months of unpaid stipends on assumption of office by President Buhari.

In any case, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the National Planning Commission’s (NPC) official figures posted astronomical rise in unemployment figures under the infamous Jonathan Presidency.

In a 2011 Performance Monitoring Report on Government’s Ministries, Departments and Agencies, (MDAs) both the NBS and NPC alerted Nigerians to a frightening unemployment rate thus;
“In 2011, Nigeria’s unemployment rose to 23.9 percent compared with 21.1 percent in 2010.” This was further corroborated in June by the World Bank’s Nigeria Economic Report, which disclosed a worsening unemployment rate from “12% of the working population in 2006 to 24% in 2011.”

And until he was forced out of office,he left the burden for the incoming government. So,unless Jonathan tackled the unemployment crisis in the moon,Nigerians never felt any respite under him and sounding sanctimonious as he did at the Oxford Union only reminds Nigerians of the Immigration recruitment tragedy which caused the death of 19 applicants in stampedes at various centers as 120,000 unemployed youths scrambled for 4,500 vacancies.

In a plain and undisguised falsehood, Jonathan claimed that his administration witnessed “… unprecedented economic growth for Nigeria.”

“Under my watch,Nigeria was projected by CNN Money to be the third fastest growing economy in the world for the year 2015 and rated as the largest economy in Africa and the 23rd in the world by the World Bank and the IMF,with a GDP above half a Trillion US dollars,” he intoned.
But in practical terms what beneficial memories has the hoopla about Nigeria being the largest economy in Africa brought to Nigerians? Nothing positive! The Jonathan government left months of unpaid salaries even to federal workers and government could not pay local contractors debts which piled over a trillion naira despite the “unprecedented economic growth?”

With no intention to malign, but to say the least,Jonathan wasted his breathe and energy speaking to the wrong audience,as they heard, but never believed him. So,he was unnecessarily mouthy and in the wrong place.Sometimes, silence is more golden, as nothing in his speech strikes like a philosophical statement from a leader.

Police Shutdown Ready-made PDP National Convention Venue; Why We Sealed The Venue - Police Reacts
The Police, early Wednesday morning, sealed offSharks Stadium, Port Harcourt, Rivers State venue of today’s National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

The Rivers Commissioner of Police, Francis Mobolaji Odesanya, said in a telephone call that according to The Nation : “We are obeying court order.”

It was gathered that policemen and other security operatives moved to the sharks stadium at the old Port Harcourt Township, popularly called Town, as early as 4 a.m. today, to prevent the breakdown of law and order.

Sharks stadium was ready last night, while the Outside Broadcasting (OB) vans of the Africa Independent Television (AIT), Channels Television and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) were mounted Tuesday evening and early this morning, but the security men asked the teams to quickly vacate the stadium, while journalists who got to the venue as early as 6 a.m., were ordered to immediately leave the stadium.

Our correspondent who was at sharks stadium at 6 a.m. was prevented at the main gate by fully-armed and stern-looking policemen, DSS operatives and other security personnel from gaining entrance into the venue.

Journalists, politicians and other persons who had already entered the stadium were ordered out, with more journalists and PDP members still milling around the stadium, as at press time, in case of
further developments.

IWALOYE: A Man And His Winning Strategies, By Goke Butika

Rt. Hon. Najeem Folasayo Salaam, the Speaker, State of Osun House of Assembly
Rt. Hon. Najeem Folasayo Salaam, the Speaker,
State of Osun House of Assembly
Happy Birthday From New Punch
Rt. Hon. Najeem Folasayo Salaam, the Speaker, State of Osun House of Assembly marks another year, but would not be celebrated with fanfare, because this period in the historical phase of our nation calls for sober reflection. As a result, this piece for this newstalk would look into his story to justify the organic link between suffering and success, apology to late Comrade Ola Oni.

Speaker Salaam appears to have premised his worldview on tripod of humility, emotional intelligence and philanthropy. He is not rich, but very generous with his little; he is not diminutive in physique, but chooses to be humble; he is not cold, but elects to work and consummate dealings and relationship with all manner of men and women with reason attached to humanism. No wonder his colleagues, friends and political allies fondly call him "IWALOYE"- meaning: proven character is royalty.

This is one individual who as a matter of principle, sees human beings as ends, that must not be treated as means, because in his wisdom, he believes that those who are fortunate to be in position of authority or wealth only have opportunities ahead of those who are disadvantaged, and that the only permanence in life is change. So, he believes that it is the responsibility of those who have opportunities to lift the lacked.

Some bookmakers were of the opinion that Speaker Salaam was only generous because he has inexhaustible wallet sourced from political pot, but they were proved wrong through the trend of history. It was said that Salaam as a private young businessman who once operated a patent medicine shop among the chain of businesses in his hometown was so generous that the indigent sick could always get their prescribed drugs available for free, not because he wanted an electoral favour then, but because he could not afford to see the poor die a cheap death. The lyrics of late "dadakuada" exponent, Odolaye Aremu comes to mind while extolling generosity of a man that, "a generous man hires labourers with aim of empowering them, just the way he bought a slave with sore in his legs, so as to feed the flies".

Ever since democracy returned to this nation, and Salaam had joined the political fray, his political foes could testify that IWALOYE has redefined politics of Ejigbo Local Government with  his keen interest in developing his people. It was said that while he was appointed as Supervisory Councilor for Health in the council; he deployed his entitlements to the care of the needy, and kept a register of the people in critical need.

However, when he contested for the chairmanship position of the council, and met the hostility of the then ruling party, he retooled with equanimity, and when he was relieved of his mandate in 2009 as a member of Osun State House of Assembly, he maintained a dignified calmness in the face of conspiratorial politicking; rather he returned to the drawing board, where he reloaded his political warhorse and returned to the same parliament in 2011.

Salaam won the trust of his colleagues when he was voted to be the first among the equals, and that year, he was elected as the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the Conference of Speakers of the State legislature, with a responsibility of midwiving the first election of the conference. Report has it that the staff of the secretariat of the Conference got the best working condition under his leadership; while his colleagues attested to the fact that the election Speaker Salaam conducted was free, fair and credible, a situation that engendered unity and harmonious working relationship among the Speakers of the state Houses of Assembly in the federation then.

Speaker Salaam also broke a record in his Ejigbo state constituency in the build up to the 2015 election, as no member of the state parliament had ever been allowed by the stakeholders to return to the House twice, and his case was not different because he was the Speaker, for the unwritten rule was unspeakable zoning between the main town and the subs, but the electorate insisted in having him returned, and the voice was pronounced during the last election.

Born in August 8, 1965, Speaker Salaam attended his elementary and post elementary school in Ejigbo, before he proceeded to Oyo state School of Science, Ilesa where he bagged his A level certificate, after which he was admitted to study political science at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife; where he obtained his masters degree in political science and currently on his doctoral thesis at the same institution respectively.

Besides, he had a crash class on legislative matters at the London School of Economics and Political science, apart from his exposure on legislative exchange in United Kingdom, United States, Germany, Brazil; plus his working visits to UAE, Tanzania, Ghana, Canada to mention but few.

Speaker Salaam is a recipient of many awards and titles, among them is the Commander of Great Ife (CGI) conferred on him by the OAU Alumni International. He is Asiwaju Musulumi of Ejigbo land, state of Osun.

This wonderful Nigerian was not born with sliver spoon in his mouth, for he lost his mother while he was two and lost his father at age 10, but was lucky to have been raised by his aunt who was a caring businesswoman, suggesting that he is a self made man, who rose to his challenges and got his dose of suffering, but weathered the storm through God and perseverance.

N108b Fraud, N1m Mr. Biggs Launch Gift Each To PDP Chairmen Earn Akpabio FG's Wrath; Properties Under Threat

Akpabio 'Earns' FG Trouble Trouble Over N108b Fraud As EFCC Set To Impound Properties
The immediate past governor of Akwa-Ibom State, now Senator of the federal Republic, Sen. Godswill Akpabio have reportedly earned the anger of the Federal Government over alleged embezzlement of N108 billion during his tenure as governor of the State between 2007 and 2015.

Hence, The antigraft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has reportedly geared up investigation on ex-Governor by writing to five banks, demanding information on Akwa Ibom State finances under Akpabio’s administration.

As if that was not enough, there is ongoing frantic move by the EFCC is to invite key members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and serving commissioners, many of whom served during the ex-governor’s administration, Punch Newspaper reports.

A source at the EFCC said, “We have written to Zenith Bank, Keystone Bank, FCMB, Skye Bank, and UBA demanding information on the state’s accounts. We are also inviting the accountant-general, the auditor-general, the Speaker and the clerk of the House of Assembly. We have traced some houses to the former governor in Lagos and Abuja and it is just a matter of time before we seize them.”

Akpabio was first quizzed by the commission’s detectives last year following series of petitions written against him.

The former governor, now the Senate Minority Leader, was accused of embezzling public funds while he was governor of the oil-rich state.

In March 2013, he was accused of giving N1m each to six chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party from the South-South geopolitical zone that had converged on Port Harcourt for a party reconciliation session, telling them to use the money to “buy Mr Biggs.”

Few weeks ago, the Akwa Ibom State government had gone to a state High Court to get an interim order barring the EFCC from investigating Akpabio’s administration.

The Justice Ntong Ntong-led court on July 15 granted an interim injunction, restraining the EFCC, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, and the Inspector General of Police from investigating the finances of the Akwa Ibom State government.

The suit was filed on behalf of the state government by the state Attorney-General, Uwemedimo Nwoko, who also served under Akpabio and is believed to be loyal to the former governor.

However, following a motion on notice filed by the EFCC, the court on Friday, vacated the order of interim injunction restraining the EFCC from investigating the accounts of state.

The judge then adjourned the matter till October 19 for hearing of the preliminary objection of the EFCC alongside other applications.

In a June 22, 2015 petition to EFCC, an Abuja-based lawyer and activist, Leo Ekpenyong had accused Akpabio of sheer waste in office.

Among several other allegations, the petitioner alleged that between January and December 2014, the trio of Godswill Akpabio, a former aide to the governor and another associate made illegal but substantial withdrawals of cash from a designated state government-owned account with Zenith Bank with account number 101037588, amounting to N22.1bn.

When contacted on the telephone on Saturday, Akpabio’s spokesman, Mr. Aniete Ekong, said he was in a public place and promised to call back. However, he had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.

Buhari's Minister, Past. Usani Usani Responsible For Dwindling Fortune Of APC In C'River State - By Capt Eno U. Inah

Buhari's Minister, Past. Usani Usani Responsible For Dwindling Fortune Of APC In C'River State - By Capt Eno U. Inah

Since he was named the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Usani had made statements in the public domain, which are distorted and quite misleading. I have personally tried to overlook his lies on the status and current rating of APC CRS, only for him to shock me out of lethargy with further disingenuous misrepresentations of the facts in issue in the press.

To drive the point straight, permit me to refer to his interview at page 42 of the Nation Newspaper of Wednesday, July 6, 2016 with the caption, “I NEVER REFUSED ANYBODY APC MEMBERSHIP” as I humbly elect to re-join as follows:

It cannot be disputed that Cross Riverians received the merger and registration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with utmost enthusiasm. That led to the massive membership into it from the outset.

The aspiration for the various organs of the party by very eminently qualified registered members from the state was normal given the viable alternative APC was envisaged to provide in the emerging build up towards the 2015 General Elections politics in the Cross River State.

Thus, apart from the Boki and Bekwarra Chapters where the party had unresolved congresses issues, the ward congresses at 196 Council Wards in the State demonstrated the natural inclinations of Cross Riverians to embrace change; especially the evolving and enticing internal democracy outlook APC represented. Yet, the inept state leadership (of the then State Harmonisation Committee), the manifest plans to hijack the party by PDP in the state, combined with the crooked disposition of the State Congresses Committee to wit, provided the fertile ground on which the stalemate of the State Congress inevitably germinated.

It was at that point His Excellency Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, as he then was, got the directives of the National leadership to intervene with a view to resolving the quagmire. Regrettably, that became the albatross of APC CRS as former Governor Amaechi’s intervention, instructed a sham state congress at the Tinapa Resort in Calabar, where he (Pastor Usani Usani) was the sole candidate. It was at this stage-managed state congress that APc members in CRS shot themselves on the feet, when they thumb printed his emergence as the State Chairman.

Prior to the repeat caricature congress, His Excellency, former Governor Amaechi, invited us to Government House Port Harcourt to dialogue and agree on the way forward for APC in CRS.  At that meeting, I did fore-warn His Excellency, former Governor Amaechi to resist the apparent ill advice from his friends in CRS state who for selfish reasons were misleading him to impose him (Pastor Usani U. Usani) as State Chairman. I did not stop there, as I also highlighted the consequences of his going with his friends on this matter. Of course, he did not heed my patriotic advice. Today, I stand vindicated because all my suppositions happened as his friends only used him (His Excellency, former Governor Amaechi) to achieve their strategic political goal. Whether the former Governor and now Minister of Transport was part of that evil plan against APC CRS is another matter altogether. But the truth shall come to light someday.

Now, he (Pastor Usani U. Usani) flaunts his luck with hubris, telling us of being a Commissioner at 35 and a Minister of the Federal Republic at 53. To say that he became a commissioner at 35 is a blatant lie. To understand the point I am making, is to understand that he cannot deny being older than I am by about two years or three years.  If I am 54+ today, he should be about 56+ or 57+ years old now. Meaning that at the time, he became a Commissioner at either 37 or 38+. What enviable record did he set becoming a Commissioner at 37 or 38+ or even at the said 35?  When we have Chief MT Mbu of blessed memory who become a Minister of the Federal Republic at 23, Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma Egba, Commissioner at 27, Chief Clement Ebri, Governor at 39, Mr Donald Duke, Governor at about 38+ on the youth leadership chronicle of CRS, as against this impious, unforgiving and sustained lies he is feeding the public.

APC leadership and Nigerians need to know that he was not there for the party at registration. He did not participate in the ward congresses held on the 14th of April 2014, chapter congresses, on the 21st of April 2014 and the stalemated state congresses that took place in Calabar on the 8th of May 2014. He only surfaced Necodemusly at Abuja pretending to be part of the solution to the stalemated State Congress. Is he not a joiner himself?  Today he claims to be a foundation member because a proxy registered him.  Thus, in spite of his current posturing, quite early on assumption of office, he left no one in doubt as to who he is, when he immediately transmuted into a malignant and subliminal dictator to the extent that he misunderstood even constructive views.

If he is not a coward, he should come out straight and bold to mention a leader(s) who intimidated the so-called youths. But, in his usual chameleonic attitude, he continues to deny that it was his leadership as State Chairman that introduced the prevailing subculture of indiscipline, sycophancy and errand boys. It is despicable how the pocket of party men he created have turned themselves into a choral group of yes men and praise singers, but largely without vote value. Given his utterances such as the one am compelled to re-join, it is now obvious who is sponsoring those political simpletons. He (Pastor Usani Usani) must therefore come to terms with the reality of the changing circumstances of APC in CRS. He take notice that each one of the big names he is facelessly taunting has more vote value for the party in CRS, than all his political up starts put together.

He cannot also repudiate the fact that he successively shunted some prominent party members out of the state party administration and functions. He deliberately enthroned exclusiveness and isolationism; promoted division, bitterness and factionalism which warranted APC’s distressing performance during the 2015 General Elections. It was this his service of the mammon, little mindedness and mediocrity that masterminded the shoddy arrangements when PMB came on campaign trip to CRS in 2015.

More so, since his appointment, he further polarised APC in CRS by emphasising on the dichotomy of old and new members and consistently calling for the sharing of dividends along such divide. Now, most well-meaning members, understand this as a treacherous ploy devised by him to force loyalty and enslave the little minds with inordinate sense of entitlement around him. Every patriotic APC stalwarts in CRS is worried because he is causing the emergent and hitherto formidable APC in CRS into a crucible of intolerance and hate leading to the rattling at will of APC CRS by the party in government.

With all these activities, is he not openly and bluntly telling people not to join the party? “Actions they say speak louder than voice.”  For me, this interview is another smoke screen intended to launder his bartered image, find alibis for the woeful outing of APC in Cross River State under your watch and the serial dismal rating of his performance as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs. Even though I know he cannot change,  I urge him to desist from thinking that he can hoodwink Nigerians from uncovering his deceitful claim to piety, intellect and integrity. He is nothing but a charade!
