Ambode, Fashola RECONCILES After Public Fight ...Fashola Did Wonders As Lagos Gov. - Ambode Praises

AMBODE FASHOLA AND NDIAT ADEBULE
The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, and his predecessor, Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, yesterday made up with renewed commitments to collaborate for the growth and development of the state less than three weeks after they both disagreed publicly over issues of interests.

Ambode, who established the grounds for reconciliation admitted in his remarks that he was able to take off smoothly with the business of governance in the state in the last 22 months because of the achievements of Fashola during his eight years reign as governor of the state.

The governor said this at the  Government House, Alausa,  during  a  courtesy call by Fashola, who had been going round the geo-political zones in the country for project inspection.

Fashola too seized the occasion of the visit to pledge more support and collaboration with the state, even as he brought Ambode up to speed on the activities of his three-in-one ministry in the state.

Ambode said, “We want to say that whatever it is that we have done in the last 22 months is just more or less the fallout of the great achievements the former governor had already put in place. We have decided that we will carry on with a sense of continuity in all things that have been done.

“I had always said that what we wanted was this continuity of the last 18 years. But ours is continuity with improvement. We are happy that all that has been done in the last 22 months is just a continuation of the template the former governor left behind,” he said.

He therefore welcomed Fashola to the state. “On behalf of the people of Lagos State, I would like to wholeheartedly welcome Mr. Babatunde Fashola, my predecessor and now Minister for Works, Power and Housing and especially back to the Alausa office, where he actually left about 22 months ago.

“This is a historic moment for us, notwithstanding that the minister lives in Lagos. This is the first time he is stepping his feet into Lagos House since he left office in 2015. We need to honour him for his service to the state. We need to say a big thank you for coming back home.”

The governor commended Fashola for serving Lagos and his people meritoriously, noting that his administration “has improved on the template already laid down during the previous administration.

He explained that the sense of collaboration expressed by Fashola “is what we believe can take whatever it is that Lagos stands for forward. As you may be aware, Lagos is celebrating its 50 years of existence this year.

“The last 18 years has been so dramatic and historic in terms of the growth and development that we have seen in Lagos, commencing from 1999, when Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu came into office and the eight good years spent by you and the two years we have done. So, obviously, there is a remarkable change between 1999 and now.”

On his part, Fashola, now the Minister of Works, Power & Housing, pledged support and collaboration with the state, even as he give an insight into some of the things his ministry has been doing in the state. He disclosed, for instance, that Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) could only supply Lagos State about 100 megawatts of power.

He, however, said the power supply to the state was certainly not enough, noting that the federal government “is already expanding its transmission capacity to ensure the state had more power supply,” adding that most of the power assets in the country “are in private hands,” even though the federal government “has responsibility as regards the transmission.”

He, therefore, added that the federal government “is working with the generation companies (GENCOs) to improve service to Lagos State. Already, we are expanding the transmission capacity in Ayobo and Odonguyan, where a new contract was awarded by the Federal Government this year.

“We have completed work on transmission at Alagbon. Last week, a damaged transformer was also restored to boost availability of power supply in the state. While coming here, we stopped at the Omotosho and Olorunshogo power stations, to access the performance of the facility.

“The intention is to get more power in the country. As at this morning, the power supply coming into Lagos is about 100 MW. That is certainly not enough. But we hope to improve on it.”

The minister pledged support for the power initiative, which the Ambode administration had started, noting that the federal government “is ready to assist the state government especially towards the rural area. But we want it to happen in a regulated area.”

He disclosed that the works ministry had already made representations to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on modalities to pay debts owed state governments including Lagos State for rehabilitation of federal roads over the years, reiterating that “the debts will be paid.” He also gave an assurance that the federal government would refund the sum of N51 billion it owed the state government.

He asked the state government to help establish the right of way on federal roads across the state, lamenting that trucks, businessmen and women had turned the right of way to their business zones.

“We have right of way challenges across the length and breadth of the country. We have trucks, businessmen and women trading within the federal government right of way. In Lagos State, that right of way is equivalent to 25.7 meters. We appeal to the Lagos State Government to deploy its personnel to recover the right of way for the apex government. It is unfair for traders, truck and others to convert the right of way to venue for business.”

He said the major area he had written to the state government about and “I think we have received some acknowledgement, was to set up a joint taskforce to recover the right of way around the Ebute Ero, Lagos Island. I hope that the committee will get to work.”

Buhari's Return: Gov. Fayose Speaks At Last ...You'll Be Shocked What He Said

fayose and buhari
Following President Muhammadu Buhari's return to the nation yesterday after 51 days medical vacation, the controversial Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Ayodele Fayose has denied that he had ever wished the President Dead.

Governor Fayose and the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC) were once again at each other's neck as they resumed brawl over the sudden, but safe return to the country of President Buhari.

While the APC accused Fayose of wishing Buhari dead, the governor denied ever nursing such a thought.

Speaking through its state Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, the party expressed delight over President Buhari’s successful medical trip to London, adding that his return had vindicated its claim that the President was not terminally ill as being portrayed in some quarters opposed to the anti-corruption war of the APC-led Federal Government.

It also expressed appreciation to Nigerians who offered prayers and goodwill for the quick recovery of the president.

The party, which accused Fayose of a death wish for him, enthused that the governor “has been put to shame with Buhari’s arrival hale and hearty on Friday.”

It added: “We also commend the Presidency and the President for not dignifying Fayose with a response when he cynically requested Buhari

to call him to prove that he was alive.”

But, reacting, while speaking to newsmen when he signed a condolence register in honour of  late General Robert Adeyinka Adebayo, Governor

Fayose said: “Whether they say shame to us or they abuse me, good luck to the Presidents’ loyalists and APC. Nobody would wish President Buhari dead. What is important is that for the President to stay away for that long, anybody would feel concerned about it. So, we pray that may God give him the strength to do his job. He has a job to do, so we will continue to pray for him to be well to fix the economy, put food on our table, we cannot task a sick man on these challenges, we will continue to pray for him to be well and bring the dollar back to N200 or less.

“We don’t have power over life and we have to continue to thank God that the President is alive strong and back. Anybody can be sick whether you are young or old. What is important is that God should give him the strength to be alive and do what we expect him to do for our country. I just leant that he said he would be going back in a few weeks’ time we have to keep our fingers crossed.

Clarifying his earlier critical position Fayose said: “There is no doubt that age is not on his side like every other person and there are many health challenges that comes with aging. What is best is that we continue to pray for him because the Holy books say we should pray for our leaders in authority.”

President Muhammadu Buhari will officially resume work on Monday after being away from his desk for 52 days on medical vacation.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, confirmed this while clarifying a statement  by the president purportedly misconstrued by the public.

Adesina, through his twitter handle, @FemAdesina, said the president, who returned to the country yesterday after some weeks medical vacation in London, would on Monday transmit letter to the National Assembly to formally register his return to the country.

“…That makes his return to work formal, and constitutional,” the presidential spokesman said.

Nigerians In UK Deny Staging Protest Against Buhari, Say President Is In Good Condition
The UK chapter of the Nigerians in Diaspora Monitoring Group (NDMG)has denied ever staging any report against the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration as reported in some online media.

The group in an electronic statement signed by Engr. Adeka Onyilo, its UK Cordinator said though its aware that some unscrupulous Nigerians are in the UK looking to recruit uninformed persons and foreigners alike to go out and embarrass the Nigerian government in an attempt to taint its anti-corruption crusade and for known corrupt persons to escape justice.

He however said no member of the group, or any other groups to our knowledge, staged protests here in the UK at anytime over the health or against the administration of President Buhari.

He also said the group has confirmed that Mr President is not in any critical condition that calls for Nigerians to worry.

According to him, the NDMG believes in and will continue to identify with the laudable achievements of President Buhari especially in the areas of fighting corruption and defeating Boko Haram terrorism and routing the group from Nigeria’s soil.

He said, "The pockets of isolated attacks are current challenges facing the world as a whole and only concerted efforts, supports and only de-radicalization of youths that have been brainwashed into extreme forms of religious views can curb such happenings anywhere in the society.

"To this ends, the NDMG (UK) wishes to salute the efforts of the Nigerian Army which led other security partners to flush the insurgents out of their stronghold. No amount of honour is enough for the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Buratai and the gallant troops under his command that performed the magic that has brought so much honour to the country abroad.

"To the extent that the people are celebrating the peace that has returned to their various communities across the north east and Local Government elections holding in all the wards of Yobe State on Saturday February 11, 2017, we hereby declare that there are indisputable facts that the Nigerian Military have delivered and must be commended."

He warned those attempting tarnish the image of Nigeria to have a rethink and desist from such.

Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State, in the early hours of Wednesday, reportedly prevented operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) from arresting Apostle Johnson Suleman of The Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, in Ado Ekiti.

The Pastor, who was in Ado-Ekiti for a two-day crusade, was alleged to have preached against Fulani herdsmen rampage by ordering his members to kill any suspected herdsmen they find near him or his church recently in Auchi, Edo State.
It was gathered that Suleman was trailed to his hotel room by the operatives of the DSS in Adebayo area of the state capital, after paying a courtesy visit on the governor at the Government House.

The DSS operatives who almost forced their way into the hotel, it was gathered, were also said to have been resisted by security men of the hotel who insisted on knowing their mission.

The pastor was said to have alerted Governor Fayose to apprise him of the sudden development.

Consequently, Fayose personally led a rescue mission to prevent the DSS from going away with the pastor by taking him to safety.

Speaking on the development, Pastor Suleman says, “I received several calls from hidden numbers trying to locate where I am and I had warned my security not to allow any Fulani man to come nearer me. So when the men of DSS came in the middle of the night I knew their mission and I had to call the Governor because if they arrest me, they will put this country in fire.”

Governor Fayose expressed his shock over the development. He noted that instead of resulting to such Gestapo-like arrest, the DSS could have easily invited the man of God if they have anything against him:

In the words of the governor, “If they have any issue with him instead of arresting him in the dead of the night after a powerful and spirit-filled crusade in my state.

“I personally attended his crusade and I think it is wrong for a man of God who is armless that could be invited if they have any issue against him. Are Christians and Moslems under different dispensation of the rule of law? . That’s why I went there to rescue him. Let them kill two of us together.

“But when they saw my vehicles and the crowd, they fled. “But we have information that instructions came from DSS in Abuja that the Pastor should be arrested. We are not in a fascist state, Federal Government must learn to respect the rights of Nigerians and freedom of expression.”

Going further, the governor said that harassment of clergymen is a dangerous trend in the country because religion is a volatile issue government should be wary of.

He, therefore, cautioned security operatives against intimidation and arrest of men of God in the interest of peace and religious harmony in the country.

HE continued,  “This is unacceptable, we are in a democracy and Nigerians should warn the Presidency against putting this country on fire because religion is an emotional thing.”

2019: Obasanjo 'Withdraws' Support For Buhari, Backs Igbo President
Apparently undermining a possible second term of the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari, a former President Olusegun Obasanjo has backed the South-East to produce the country’s next president by 2019

Obasanjo explained his submission was his personal view and added that, the “problem of justice and marginalisation have been major source of conflicts between ethnic and regional divisions in the country.”

Obasanjo was instrumental to Buhari's emergency in 2015.

The former president made this known when the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ogun State chapter, organised a special New Year service at his Hilltop residence in Abeokuta.

Obasanjo disclosed that it was part of his resolve for a just and fair country that made him to work for the emergence of a South-South president in 2009.

“But, irrespective of the thinking of the people ahead of 2019, I personally think that South-East should have a go at the Presidency, too.”

Back home, with regards to Ogun State, he, however, noted that, in the interest of justice and fairness, Ogun West senatorial district should be given the slot to produce the next governor of the state.

His words: “The same is happening here. If Ijebu and Egba have produced the governor, it is only fair and just to allow the Yewa or Ogun West to also produce governor. Or else, one day, they will also stand up and take up arms against this injustice against them. That is my personally position on this.”

On crisis in Southern Kaduna, Obasanjo cautioned Nigerians against commenting on what they do not really have detailed reports of. “This is largely responsible for the escalation of the situation.

“My findings so far show that everyone is talking from the position of strength. People are not talking from knowledge of what they know and this is not helping. We must be able to dump all our sentiments to overcome the challenges.

“Just like other cases of injustice around us, we need peace; it is only peace with justice that can solve all these crises. Genuine peace is what everyone is craving for and this can only come when there is justice,” he said.

The state chairman of CAN, Bishop Tunde-Akin Akinsanya, described Obasanjo as a special gift to Nigeria and the entire world considering his exploits and fatherly role.

He commended the former president for facilitating the building of the Ecumenical Centre, Abuja and added that his administration is also working on similar project in the state.

Dear SIR

PETITION AGAINST EVELYN OKAKWU AND EDITORS OF PREMIUM TIMES ONLINE NEWSPAPERS OVER INJURIOUS FALSEHOOD AND CRIMINAL DEFAMATION ON THE PERSON OF LT.GENERAL T.Y.BURATAI( CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF)

We are Solicitors to LT.GEN. T.Y.BURATAI, CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF and write you as per his instructions.

By a December 12 2016 publication by PREMIUMTIMES penned by EVELYN OKAKWU with the title "Bureau to investigate Army Chief Buratai for alleged false asset declaration" the PREMIUM TIMES informed the public that Our Client is being investigated by Code of Conduct Bureau. This story received wide publication and readership. In fact it created bad image for Our Client and caused Military men on the field to get worried about their Boss even when the said story was false and fabricated.

It may interest you to know that the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) had since absolved the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai of any infraction of the laws over the declaration of Dubai Flat.

The CCB through a letter dated July 11, 2016 with Reference CCB/HQ/671/G/1/6 and signed by Mrs. Ijeanuli Arinze Ofor on behalf of the CCB chairman emphatically stated that LT.Gen.T.Y.BURATAI never contravened the CCB Act.

Also by a letter dated 29TH SEPTEMBER, 2016 signed by the Chairman of CCB LT.Gen.T.Y.Buratai and Fourteen other public officers had submitted themselves for verification of assets and were found to be clean. The CCB thus ended investigation on assets of these officers and that of LT.Gen.T.Y.Buratai on September 29 2016 and issued them certificates of completion.
This Firm had on December 13 2016 reached out to the management of CCB and they have denied ever contradicting themselves on the assets issue of Our Client and that they stand on their September 29 2016 letter.

Sir, it is clear that the PREMIUM TIMES publication of December 12 2016 was done to incite the public against Our Client, tarnish his reputation and subject him to public ridicule. This is a case of injurious Falsehood and Criminal Defamation.

We urge you to invoke the relevant sections of the PENAL CODE to apprehend the said EVELYN OKAKWU and MANAGEMENT OF PREMIUMTIMES SERVICES LTD with a view to prosecuting them before the Abuja Courts.
Awaiting your kind prompt action Sir.
