International Director, University of Portsmouth, United Kingdom, Bobby Mehta has said the institution is seeking collaboration with Nigeria tertiary institutions to boost research and teaching capacities and further promote the economies of the two countries.
He made this known recently at a reception for alumni and friends of the university held at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.

Mehta who revealed that the university is also setting up an office in the country, said this would create avenue for students exchange programme and also help to improve Portsmouth and Nigerian Universities.
He said the institution which last year received a gold rating from the United Kingdom government is now at par with world-class universities like Oxford and Cambridge.
He said the institution is also open to partnership and research in many different areas.
He said: The partnership will build on several researches fields of human endeavours. University of Portsmouth is a comprehensive institution that has a wide range of courses covering many disciplines. So we are open to partnerships and researches in many different fields.
Mehra also announced the appointment of Mrs. Chinelo Konwea, a Nigerian as the West Africa International Officer for the university.
At the event, Director and Chief Executive Officer, Centre for Satellite Technology Development (CSTD) Abuja, Dr. Spencer Onuh urged Nigerian universities to partner with universities from developed economies as they stand to gain through effective exchange of global best practices.
He also stressed the need for managers in the sector to follow the examples of most western countries by running the nations education sector especially the universities as an industry.
According to him, the country education sector is in dismal shape because the nation is yet to industrialise it and make it more competitive for investment and patronage.
He said: I will advocate that Nigeria should think of making their educational sector an industry because when this is done, managers of the sector will do all they can to attract the best students to their universities and ensure the universities compete among the best globally.
He said during his time as a lecturer at Portsmouth, the institution succeeded with high turnover due to the fact that every year, management met with industries to discuss trends and what they require from students coming into the labour market.
Onuh therefore called on the federal government to professionalise lecturing and also address the issue of infrastructure to ensure products from the countrys universities are saleable.
