Sen. Andy Uba: Group Chides Heritage Bank, says bank's action is mischievous, threatens legal action

A renowned coalition of civil society organisation,  under the umbrella of Citizens Media Organization has condemned the invasion of Senator Andy Uba's resident by some staff of the Heritage Bank in a bid to recover an alleged loan, describing it as mischievous and politically orchestrated to blackmail the Senator.

The group, however, threatened to sue Heritage Bank if by 48 hours it did not apologize to Senator Andy Uba in an official letter. 

Few days ago, a viral video shared on socia has contained some staff of the Heritage Bank, while on a loan recovery drive protested at the gate of Abuja resident of Senator Uba, asking him to come to the bank and repay an alleged loan obtained from the bank. 

But the group in a Press Statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Larry suraj, the Secretary, Comrade ikechukwu albert and the PRO, Comrade Ajibade samuel described the bank's action as mischievous, barbaric and calculated move to blackmail the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC aspirant in the forthcoming Anambra State Governorship election, Senator Uba. 

The statement went further to say the move was not legitimate and conventional way to recover loan even if the Senator had defaulted in the alleged loan agreement

What was being said in Press Statement:

"... Our group, the Citizens Media Organization, a coalition of civil society organisation condemned in strong term the invasion of Senator Andy Uba's Abuja by some staff of the Heritage Bank. The move of the bank's staff is not just barbaric, but also mischievous, illegitimate, unconventional and calculated plot by the political enemies to blackmail and embarras Senator Andy Uba, who is strong Governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State."

" The Heritage Bank, as we know is one of the reputable bank in Nigeria. Even if the distinguished Senator actually erred in the alleged loan agreement, there are legitimate means approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria in loan recovery. Why did the bank and its staff shunned the legitimate procedure, but instead, let itself to be used by some political enemies of the Senator? We hereby give Heritage Bank to officially tender an apology to the Senator within 48 hours, failure to do this, we shall have no option to approach the court for redress "

"Despite the blackmail, Senator Andy Uba is no doubt, the best option who will definitely extricate Anambra State from its current poor governance if elected as governor of the state." 

"We therefore urged the good people of Anambra to remain steadfast and continue giving their maximum supports to Senator Uba, as he is poised and resolute to fix the state and bridge the infrastructure gaps neglected in the state".
