Whingan decries huge impact of oil theft on Nigeria's economy, calls for immediate action

Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, a member of the House of Representatives from Badagry Federal Constituency has decried the devastating huge impact of oil theft and losses on the economy of Nigeria. He said it's high time the menace is addressed to resuscitate the dwindling economy of the country.

Whingan is a member of the Special Committee on Oil Theft and Losses at the House of Representatives. He revealed the information yesterday, January 23, 2024, shortly after obtaining a full briefing from the clerk of the Special Committee on Oil Theft and Losses in the lower chamber of the national assembly and shared it on his social media accounts.

The young and versatile legislator from Badagry, who also serves as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee Petroleum Resources (upstream), lamented that, in a country whose economy is heavily reliant on crude oil, the impact of oil theft and losses to criminals is enormous and must not be overlooked.

His words:

"I had the privilege of receiving a comprehensive briefing from the Clerk of the Special Committee on Oil Theft and Losses, of which I am a dedicated member. The committee's crucial mission is to tackle the pressing challenges confronting the oil sector and to put an end to this detrimental menace. He said it is imperative to address this issue head-on and safeguard the nation's vital resources."
