2nd Cycling Kano Holds December 12 as Organisers Launch ‘Water Is Life’ Campaign

Cycling Africa, in collaboration with the Kano State Government, has announced that the second edition of Cycling Kano will take place on Saturday, December 12, 2026, with a campaign promoting clean water access, conservation and climate change awareness.

The event, themed “Water Is Life,” follows the successful maiden edition in 2025, which attracted more than 1,000 cyclists and enthusiasts, marking a major milestone for competitive cycling in Northern Nigeria.

President and Chief Executive Officer of Cycling Africa, Bamidele Adeleye, said the 2026 edition would feature expanded competitive categories, improved route safety and increased opportunities for grassroots talent discovery.

He commended Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, for supporting the initiative, noting that the event would promote youth engagement, healthy living and economic opportunities through sports.

According to Adeleye, the race will begin at the historic Emir’s Palace, traverse major routes across Kano and conclude with a celebration of the city’s rich cultural heritage.

Beyond the competition, organisers plan to establish water conservation awareness points along the route and collaborate with environmental and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene organisations to promote sustainable water management.

Cycling Africa said a registration portal would be unveiled in November for interested participants, with the event expected to attract cyclists, clubs, families and sports enthusiasts from across Nigeria.

The 2025 edition received sponsorship from the Kano State Government and Union Bank of Nigeria, with additional support from Flour Mills of Nigeria, FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria and Cway.

For sponsorship, partnership and participation enquiries, interested parties can contact the organisers via [email protected] or 07033956609.
