The family of Peace Chineyenwa Eugene, a 33-year-old chartered accountant who went missing in Abuja in March 2026, has called on the Inspector-General of Police to ensure a thorough investigation into her disappearance and allegations of misconduct by officers previously handling the case.
In a statement signed by Engineer Gloria Ijioma, the family alleged that the Police Investigative Response Team (IRT) in Guzape, Abuja, failed to pursue critical leads, properly handle evidence and account for the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of key suspects.
Peace, who worked with Los Angeles Event Centre and Mall in Abuja, reportedly left for work on March 13, 2026, but never returned home. Her disappearance was reported to the police on March 21.
The family said the recovery of two of her phones in March raised hopes of finding her, after the devices reportedly led investigators to phone dealer Toochukwu Iloani and other individuals. However, it alleged that investigators failed to follow the trail effectively, while Ifeanyi Okere, identified in the family's account as a person linked to the phones, remained at large.
The statement also raised concerns over the reported disappearance of Chimaobi Hector Okere from police custody, alleged interference in the investigation and purported inappropriate remarks by some officers. The family is demanding an investigation into these allegations and the conduct of the officers involved.
The family expressed appreciation to the IGP for approving a change of investigative team, saying the development had renewed its hope of finding Peace. It urged the police to secure all relevant evidence, trace everyone connected to the recovered phones and pursue every credible lead to establish her whereabouts.
The family stressed that its priority remains the safe return of Peace Eugene and called for accountability to ensure that the circumstances surrounding her disappearance are fully investigated.
