CLIMATE CHANGE: OSUN ASSEMBLY CANVASSES SYNERGY BTW ACADEMICS, PARLIAMENT

Salaam Najeem
Chairman, House Committee on Environment, State of Osun House of Assembly, Hon. Ajibola Akinloye has canvassed for the synergy between the academics and state parliaments on the issue of climate change, saying that was when the message of attitudinal change of human beings to the nature could resonate.

Barring his mind on the theme: "climate change, renewable energy and energy efficiency" at a symposium organized by Osun state University on climate change, Akinloye represented by the  Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr. Goke Butika stressed that the collaboration of the academic researchers who were working the causes and effects of climate change with politicians who could make it a campaign issue would afford the people in the cities and rural areas to pick interest in the danger of climate change.

Akinloye then urged the people to be conscious of the way they treat their environment, saying that the effects of climate change touch on existence of man and living organisms and should not be treated as fiction or fun.

The lawmaker also expressed the readiness of his committee to extract from the transcripts of the researchers to enact bill that could domesticate some of the international treaties with a view to offering a piece of legal framework to better living.

Akinloye then tasked the researchers and other stakeholders to take the issue of climate change out of elitist environment, noting that uninformed people need the message more than the elite class, saying the only way to reach wider audience was to adopt language of the market.
