Withdraw Your Support For Arrested Judges, NUAC Tells NBA
Hundreds of protesters under the umbrella body of Nigerians United Against Corruption‎ (NUAC) today marched to the headquarters of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Abuja, calling on them to withdraw their support for the arrested judges.

They also urged the NBA not to support corruption in any form

‎Led by Comrade Ogenyi Okpokwu, NUAC, in a protest letter submitted to the National President of the NBA, Mr. Abubakar Mahmoud, a senior advocate, also called on the umbrella body of lawyers to set up an independent body to investigate issues of corruption in the profession, with the aim of excommunicating ‎the bad eggs

The Directorate of State Security (DSS) had last weekend arrested justices Sylvester Ngwuta and John Okoro; the suspended Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Ilorin Division, Justice Mohammed Tsamiya; Justice Kabiru Auta of the Kano State High Court; and Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Others arrested were a former Chief Judge of Enugu State, Justice I. A. Umezulike; and Muazu Pindiga of the Federal High Court, Gombe Division‎‎‎
NUAC in the letter demanded, "That the NBA withdraws all form of support and sympathy for these corrupt elements which have most certainly tainted the image of one of the world’s most dignified professions.
"That you set up an independent body to investigate issues of corruption amongst members with the aim of excommunicating same, as deterrent to others who may have been enticed by the flamboyant life styles of these judases.
"All the judges so far indicted or arrested for corruption immediately resign considering the magnitude of the case that the DSS has built against them.
"The cases of those that have been given lenient punishments that amount to a slap on the wrist by the National Judicial Council (NJC) should be revisited with a view to dragging them before a law court.
"The arrested judges should be charged to court within the shortest time possible to that they cannot claim their rights were violated".
The protesters were armed with placard with various inscriptions such as "a corrupt judge is worse than boko Haram; corruption must die in Nigeria; we support more arrest of corrupt Nigerians among others".

The representative of the NBA President, Ezekiel David received the protest letter from the group.

Fayose Slaps Judge: Where Was The NBA?

Fayose Slaps Judge: Where Was The NBA?

The Nigeria Bar Association, the NBA on Saturday went wild, saying it has drawn a battle line with the Federal Government over invasion and arrest of some judges found culpable in corrupt practices.
There have been noises of dictatorial and impunity claimed by the NBA.

The Department of State Services (DSS) had confirmed on Saturday that it carried out a special sting operation on some judges of Supreme, Appeal and High courts.

Fayose Slaps Judge: Where Was The NBA?
Various sums of monies recovered by the operatives included N93,558,000, $530,087, £25,970 and €5,680, Mr Abdullahi Garba of DSS, had said in a statement.

The NBA President, Abubakar Mahmoud, while addressing journalists alongside four past presidents, asked President Muhammadu Buhari to order the immediate release of the affected judges or there would be consequences.

Mahmoud addressed the press at the Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, alongside four past presidents of the association – Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), Dr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN); Mr. J.B. Daudu (SAN) and Augustine Alegeh (SAN).

Asuming the Federal Government id 'guilty as charged'; the fundamental question to be asked the NBA is where were they when Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, entourage by hoodlums invaded a Federal High Court in the state, reportedly slapped the Chief Judge?

Buhari Offering Nigerians The CHANGE We Voted For - Gov. Adams Oshiomhole
Former labour union leader turned politician and now governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has said avowed that President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress, APC government has actualised the change Nigerians voted for during the 2015 election

Oshiomole said the Buhari led government who came into power on the change mantra, is correcting the mistakes of the past which will definitely take time.

The governor said this while speaking at the national executive committee meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association today June 17th.

“I know that right now, everybody is talking in the country. Is this the change we asked for?

And my answer is Yes. It is the change we asked for.

For all of us in this hall, you know that the challenge of fixing a house that has been destroyed is much more cumbersome than even building a completely new house because for the one that has been destroyed, you have to start by removing the debris.

You have to check whether the foundations are weak so that you remove them. You must first do a lot of cleansing and excavation. That is what President Muhammadu Buhari is doing. And people expect that in 12 months you would have fixed what was destroyed in 16 years.

It is simply not possible and in any case, you must also recognize that even the pressure on the naira is the result of the so much dollars that was taken out and it will require a lot of efforts at a time of collapsed prices and the challenge of oil export to fix what was completely mismanaged.

So, I ask us as elite, we have a duty to explain to the Nigerian people: Changes will come, but they won’t come by trying to remove a house with smoke under. You must extinguish the fire and make sure the foundations are strong, and start the process of rebuilding gradually.

Is this the Change we asked for? Yes. It’s the Change we asked for.

There is no way miracles can occur in the life of a nation. The challenge of re-fixing the house that has been destroyed is much more cumbersome,” Mr. Oshiomhole said. Attachments area
