Nigerians attack Lagos Council Chairman over inability to compose employment letter

The chairman of Somolu local council in Lagos State, Abdulhameed Salawu, has received knocks over a letter of appointment bestowed on one of his aides.

Salawu, who was inaugurated alongside 56 others in July 2017 by ex-Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, has reportedly courted controversies throughout his time in office. 

He has been accused of alleged misappropriation of funds, gross misconduct, abuse of office, and even issuing juicy appointments and contracts to family members.

However, his recent outing appears to be the last straw that broke the camel's back.

In a letter titled 'Appointment as Assistant Chief Press Secretary' dated 18th May 2020, signed by Salawu himself and addressed to one Mr. Badaru Wasiu, the chairman totally went off the rails.

Rather than categorically state that Mr Wasiu has been appointed and his duties, the content of the letter was a congratulatory one.

"Accept my congratulations on your appointment as Ass Chief Sec. to the Executive Chairman: Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu. Your appointment takes immediate effect," it reads.

This has sparked widespread criticism beyond Somolu to the entire state and nation with critics questioning the chairman's education qualification, suggesting that a power shift is needed ahead of the next council elections.
