Judge Brought 20 Armed Policemen To Court To Intimidate Me - Lawyer

Human Rights lawyer, Barrister Victor Giwa has said a judge, Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory sitting in Apo, brought in about 20armed policemen to court to intimidated him during his trial.

He vowed to report the incident to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN and the Chief Judge of the FCT high court, through a letter.

He said, "The judge brought 20 armed policemen to the court today because of me. Ten of those policemen were inside the courtroom. A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, had to ask the judge, " My Lord, what is happening, why do we have policemen in the court"?

"There were armed men inside the courtroom. When I saw the policemen,  I was thinking they came to arrest me, so, I hid inside my car. It was Justice Jude and Asabe Waziri, a staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, that made that arrangement.

"The judge is intimidating me in the court, I cannot get justice. I am writing a letter to the CJ and the CJN that I am not even safe in the court of Justice Jude because he has taken the case personal against me."

Giwa while attempting to make submission before the court urged the court to give him audience.

The police had accused Giwa of forging letterhead paper of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Awa Kalu.

But Awa Kalu, in a letter to the Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode. Egebtolun, put a lie to the allegation of the police against Ibitade and Giwa.

Despite the letter of Prof. Awa Kalu to the Inspector-General of Police, formally distancing himself from the allegation of forgery and impersonation against Giwa and Ibitade, the police have gone ahead to press charge against Giwa.

Chief Kalu, in a letter to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, had said his letterhead was never forged and that he had not at anytime lodged any complaint to the police about forgery of his document.

Professor Kalu, in a letter dated May 30, 2025, addressed to the Inspector General of Police, clarified that he neither filed a complaint nor reported Mr. Giwa for allegedly forging his firm’s letterhead.

During the proceedings, Thursday, Giwa broughta medical report that he was indisposed and would not be able to proceed with the matter.

He also added that he had e gaged a new lawyer who is supposed to argue his case for him before the court.

But the judge insisted that he must go on with the case.

Giwa had filed an application urging the judge to recuse himself from the matter.

The court was ready to begin hearing of the motion when Giwa told the court that he had a medical report from the hospital amd would not be able to proceed on the ground if ill-health.

But the judge insisted that he must proceed and move his application.

He later told the court that he was just served with the amended coubter-motion of the Police and had not had the opportunity to go through it.

It was at that point that the court adjourned the case to December 10, 2025.

In the application, Barrister Giwa asked the judge to recuse himself from the matter on the ground of bias and partisanship.

He said that he has no chance of getting justice before the court.

FCT High Court Judge Grants Exparte Order Over Property in Lekki, Lagos State

FCT High Court Judge Grants Exparte Order Over Property in Lekki, Lagos State

By Peter Dansu

Justice Othman Musa

Justice Othman Musa of the High Court of Justice of the Federal Capital Territory has granted an Exparte Order over a property located in Lekki Peninsula Scheme, Lagos.

The court grated the order in a case for the enforcement of Fundamental Rights in Suit No. FCT/HC/CV/4636/2025 between Mr. Henry Ugonna Orabuchi and Nigeria Police Force and five others.

In the application for the enforcement of fundamental rights, the applicant, Mr. Orabuchi, claimed that the Respondents have gravely infringed his fundamental rights guaranteed under Sections 34, 35, 36, 37, 41, and 44 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), as well as Articles 9 and 14 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights (Ratification and Enforcement) Act.

The applicant claimed that he purchased 3,000 square meters of reclaimed land at the back of the property described as Plot No A Block 12, Lekki Peninsula Scheme, Lagos State from one Mr. Emecheta Elvis Eze (the 5th Respondent) who is the beneficial owner of the property.

According to court documents, as at the time of the transaction in January, 2023, the land had not been reclaimed and the contract stipulated that the portion of the land (3,000sqm) shall be given to Mr. Henry after the land has been reclaimed.

After reclaiming the land, the 5th Respondent applied for recertification and processing of Certificate of Occupancy to secure the title for the entire reclaimed land measuring about 10,000 square meters from where 3,000 will be apportioned to the Applicant.

While the title is being processed, the Applicant alleged that the 5th Respondent refused to fulfil his own part of the bargain by denying him access to the property and reported the matter to the Nigeria Police in Lagos. Later on, the Applicant took over possession of the entire property including the main property and the entire reclaimed land.

Following the Applicant’s action, the 5th Respondent’ lawyer, Prof. Mike Ozekhome, SAN, wrote a Petition against the Applicant to the Nigeria Police Force for criminal trespass, damage to property and threat to life, based on which the Nigeria Police, on 11th November, 2025, issued a letter of invitation to Mr. Henry Ugonna Orabuchi at his residence at No. 6 Morgan Estate, Phase 2, Lagos.

The said letter, titled "Letter of Invitation RE: Case of Criminal Trespass, Breach of Trust, Malicious Damage and Conduct Likely to Cause Breach of Peace", directed the Applicant to report to the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja, on Thursday, 20th November, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., to shed light on allegations made by the 5th Respondent. Without honouring the Police invitation, Mr. Henry Ugonna Orabuchi filed a fundamental Rights Enforcement Proceedings before FCT High Court wherein he challenged the Powers of the Nigerian Police Force to invite him in the process of their investigation into the allegations of criminal trespass and damage to property and threat to life.

The Applicant argued, in his case before the Court that the Police invitation is based on malicious allegation, ‘crafted solely to intimidate and harass him and to compel him into relinquishing his lawful proprietary and contractual rights over the property’.

He accused the Nigerian Police of not exercising their statutory powers lawfully and having acted maliciously and in bad faith, and to have used the coercive powers of the State to advance the private interest of the 5th Respondent in a purely private transaction.

Following the Exparte application filed by the Applicant’s lawyer, Chikaosolu Ojukwu, SAN, Hon. Justice Othman Musa granted Exparte Order over a property in Lekki, a Lagos property.

He said in the order, “That an Interim Injunction is hereby made restraining the 1st to 4th Respondents, either by themselves or through any of 1st Respondent's commands, formations, units, agents, operatives or officers under its command, control or direction, from inviting, arresting, detaining harassing, intimidating or howsoever dealing adversely with the Applicant in connection with the subject matter of this suit, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit".

“That an Interim Order is hereby made directing the 2nd Respondent, through the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2, Lagos State, and the 6th Respondent to seal and secure the entire property known and described as Plot No. A, Block 12, Lekki Peninsula Scheme, Lagos State, including the reclaimed land at the back of the property measuring 3,000 square meters FORTHWITH, and to immediately halt all works, activities, actions, or steps on the said property while ensuring that no person, authority, or entity howsoever described is permitted access to or entry upon the property pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit before this Honourable Court.”

He also ordered, “That an Interim Order is hereby made directing the 6th Respondent to place a caveat on the whole property described as Plot No. A, block 12, Lekki Peninsula Scheme, Lagos State including the reclaimed land at the back of the property measuring 3,000 square meters FORTHWITH pending the hearing and final determination of the substantive suit before this Honourable Court”.

It is important to point out that the Exparte Orders granted by the FCT High Court were granted based on a case for the enforcement of the fundamental rights of the Applicant (Mr. Henry Ugonna Orabuchi) over a land that is located in Lekki area of Lagos State, which is outside the jurisdiction of the FCT High Court. The Court also joined the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development as 7th Respondent in the suit and adjourned the case to 16th December, 2025 for hearing.

Human right Lawyer and public commentator, Victor Giwa, has written to the president of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN,  notifying him of  what he describes as subversion of justice, abuse of office and weaponization of the Court by Asabe Waziri, a staff of NNPCL.

Also fingered in the plot are senior lawyer, Joe Agi, SAN, and the AIG Legal of the Nigeria police force.

In a letter dated 26th November, 2025, the lawyer appealed to the NBA president to intervene in perversion of justice taking place in his trial before His Lordship Hon Jude Onwuezuruke in the FCT High Court sitting in Apo.

The lawyer accused Asabe Waziri of taking over the case of the trial of alleged Forgery and Impersonation of Awa Kalu letter head paper.

“Asabe Waziri is the complainant, she funds the trial, and communicates with the Court on the proceedings", he said.

Awa Kalu SAN has never reported any case of forgery of his letter headed paper; the Senior lawyer has in letter dated 5th of June 2025 written to the IGP that he has not made any complaint of forgery against Victor Giwa .

Giwa called on the NBA president not to stand aloof while the judiciary under his watch is ridiculed and brought to disrepute by the likes of Asabe Waziri.

The letter reads “…My trial is now between Asabe Waziri, Joe Agi, SAN and some persons in the Office of the Chief Judge of FCT who have now weaponized the court against me.

The Honourable Court has refused to recuse itself from my case even in the light of my complaints of loss of confidence in the honourable Court  and His Lordship descending into the arena by reading its ruling without me arguing my application before him at the last sittings”.

TOS Launches ‘One Dictionary Per Child’ Campaign to Boost Literacy Amongst Lagos State Pupils

Amid the excitement of launching her pet project, One Dictionary Per Child Campaign, Taiwo  Lolade Salvador, popularly known as TOS, announced that the initiative is permanent and will soon reach every local‑government area in Lagos State.

Salvador, a passionate literacy advocate and product of Lateef Kayode Jakande’s free‑education era, said "education was both a foundation and a ladder for me , and now I must pass that legacy on" She said with passion ..

After a 14‑year evaluation, she noted persistent weaknesses in children’s reading ability, pronunciation and vocabulary, which inspired the dictionary drive. "The dictionaries are lightweight, portable and designed to boost confidence, lower academic anxiety and nurture language skills"

She thanked Lagos State’s leadership for its support and urged further government collaboration.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the occasion, *Chief Tunde Fanimokun*,  the Agbaakin of Iruland, who was represented by Chief Francis Olanrewaju Shonubi, said that  “I am always eager to support such projects like this  because it will add to the learning value in our society; you have a supporter in me,” adding that as a retired Lagos State Permanent Secretary, he believes every child deserves a dictionary, a treasure trove of words and knowledge.

Mr. Alaba Israel  described the initiative as “remarkable and first‑of‑its‑kind,” while Mrs. Moji Olemoh, representing Eti‑Osa LG chairman Omo‑Oba Adeola Adetoro, praised Salvador’s passion and noted that a dictionary, unlike a mobile phone, is a non‑distracting learning tool.

Mr. Abayomi Oyelami emphasised, “It takes a village to raise a child,” urging parents, government officials, educators and stakeholders to back the campaign, saying, “A project like this needs everyone , be it parents, officials, educators and well‑wishers.”

The event, held at Dr. Finnih Park, Opebi Link Road, Ikeja, featured light music, refreshments and networking, underscoring the shared responsibility of government, teachers, parents and organizations to close Lagos’s literacy gap. Salvador called on the state government and partners to join, stressing that education is a lasting legacy.

Through the TOS Educational Initiative, the campaign now aims to nurture a reading culture, one dictionary at a time..

Ogun Police Command Deploy Tactical Teams On Surveillance Operation In Ajebo Community

… assures residents of public safety

The Ogun State Police Command has reassured residents of Ajebo community in Obafemi-Owode Local Government that there is no imminent threat of attack in the area following a viral video circulating on social media that herdsmen are preparing to unleash violence on the host community.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, deployed the Command’s tactical team, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) to assess security situation in the area, in conjunction with Amotekun Corps, So-Safe Corps, Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), local hunters and Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) to undertake thorough intelligence-led assessment in and around Ajebo community.

The operatives discovered the Fulani settlers in Ajebo are not hostile migrants but long-standing residents, living peacefully within the community. Children and women were seen in their temporary shelters but no arms or suspicious activities were detected. No adult male was present. The men had travelled to Oyo State for trading activities, which is consistent with their routine economic pattern. A further sweep of the settlement revealed an extended RUGA location that has reportedly been in existence for over ten years.

The Kabiyesi, Oba Rueben Oluwole, who is said to have authorized the allocation of land to the settlers, has been invited for clarification. Additionally, the Baale of Alapako, where another cluster of Fulani huts were identified, has also been invited for a meeting with the Commissioner of Police.

The combined team of security agencies is maintaining surveillance within the forest area, approximately 10km from the main community. Their presence is strictly precautionary, as the settlers were found to be unarmed and living peacefully.

The Ogun State Police Command reassures members of the public that proactive intelligence measures remain fully in place, and citizens are advised to remain calm, vigilant, and to avoid sharing unverified information capable of inciting fear.

The Taiwo Ololade Salvador (TOS) Educational Initiative has unveiled its “One Dictionary Per Child” campaign, a literacy-focused drive designed to provide every pupil in Lagos State public schools with a personal dictionary.

The highly anticipated launch will hold on November 20, 2025, at Dr. Finnih Park, 3 Opebi Roundabout, Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos State. The event begins at 9am.

Governor Hyacinth Alia  has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to achieving full agricultural mechanization in Benue State, beginning with the dry-season farming programme scheduled to commence in December 2025.

The governor gave the assurance on Monday during an inspection visit to the Bureau of Agricultural Development and Mechanization, where he assessed ongoing work at the tractor and equipment assembly plant.

During the visit, Governor Alia inspected 41 newly assembled tractors of various brands and capacities, ranging from 25hp to 95hp alongside several complementary farm implements, including combine harvesters, different types of threshers, planters/fertilizer applicators, excavators, and yam mounders, among others.

He reiterated his resolve to sustain the Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement entered into by the state government with Mass International & Equipment Nigeria Limited (SABASPAC Int’l Ltd.), the tripartite private-sector partner in the initiative.

According to the governor, the partnership is an initiative of the Bureau for Entrepreneurship and Wealth Creation, led by Ms. Benita Shuluwa, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. The Agribusiness Mechanization Centre operates from the premises of the Bureau of Agricultural Development and Mechanization.

Governor Alia noted that the collaboration is already yielding gains, with over 900 youths trained in tractor assembly and modern agricultural best practices.

He also inspected demonstration farms within the facility, showcasing smart seedlings of crops including papaya, cocoa, rice, and oil palm.

The governor directed the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security to ensure that all government-owned agricultural lands are immediately earmarked for the planting and replanting of improved seedlings of oranges, mangoes, and key grains such as guinea corn, wheat, barley, and sorghum.

Lawyer Cries Out, Alleges Bias Against Abuja Judge

Lawyer Cries Out, Alleges Bias Against Abuja Judge

An Abuja-based legal practitioner, Victor Giwa, has cried out over what he described as “judicial absurdity” exhibited by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, sitting in Apo.

Giwa is currently a party in a charge marked CR/150/25, between the Inspector General of Police v. Victor Giwa and others, pending before Justice Onwuegbuzie.

Addressing judiciary correspondents on Thursday, Giwa narrated his unpleasant experience in the hands of the trial judge when the matter came up on November 12, 2025.

“Yesterday was a very sad and unfortunate day for me. I cried because I didn’t know that the Nigerian justice system had gotten this bad.

“I witnessed it yet again with Hon. Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the FCT High Court 30, Apo, before whom I am standing trial,” Giwa stated.

As one of the defendants in the case, Giwa said he was in court for the trial, which according to him, “has been nothing but an arrangement sponsored by Asabe Waziri and facilitated by a senior lawyer and some persons in the office of the Chief Judge of the FCT.”

Giwa disclosed that the case was for the cross-examination of PW1 (Asabe Waziri) and that he was ready to proceed, just as the prosecuting counsel also informed the court of his readiness.

However, Giwa stated that he noticed Asabe Waziri refused to approach the witness box, as she sat glued to her seat.

At this point, Giwa said the judge interjected and informed the court that he had seen a motion on notice seeking his recusal from further hearing of the charge.

According to Giwa, the judge insisted on taking the motion first.

“I informed the court that I had not said anything about the motion and, as a matter of fact, I was not interested in it yet. His Lordship, however, insisted that he would take the motion on notice to recuse himself.

“To put the records straight, I had four pending motions in the file docket, including one challenging the court’s jurisdiction to proceed with the matter, yet the Honourable Judge was more interested in the motion for recusal. It was thereafter that I got the shock of my life.

“Hon. Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie started delivering his prepared ruling even when I had not spoken on the application.

“I almost fainted in court. I gasped for breath. I shouted that I was fainting. It was like a movie. The Hon. Judge was neck-deep in the arena.

“The Hon. Judge must deliver as instructed. The court must deal with me. Nothing should stop him, as I was informed that the Honourable Chief Judge personally has interest in the matter and that I should be sent to jail,” Giwa stated.

Without hearing the defence and prosecution lawyers make submissions, Giwa said the trial judge went ahead to rule that he had no interest in the case and that he must proceed with the matter at all costs.

Giwa concluded by saying that though he neither has godfathers nor senior lawyers, and cannot afford to “play around with dollars” like Asabe Waziri, “I have conscience, which most of them have lost. Nigeria must protect its conscience. We must save our judiciary.”

LAGOS SUMMIT: TOGETHER, FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND LAGOS STATE TO HARNESS BLUE ECONOMY FOR SUSTAINABLE GROWTH

The Federal and Lagos State Governments on Thursday reaffirmed their commitments to harness the potential of the blue economy for sustainable growth and job creation. Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu also launched the Climate Investment Opportunities Diagnostic (CIOD), a document aimed at bridging the gap between urgent environmental priorities and providing tangible investment pathways needed to build a resilient, low‑carbon future for all residents.

Speaking at the 11th Lagos International Climate Change Summit themed “The Blue Economy, Green Money: Financing Africa’s Coastal Resilience and Ocean Innovation,” Sanwo‑Olu said, “the discussions at the summit are not just peripheral but pivotal.” He added that the state government’s approach to the climate era is anchored on three interconnected pillars: Resilience, Innovation and Financing. “We are building coastal resilience to protect lives and livelihoods. We are driving ocean innovation to re‑imagine commerce and mobility. And we are unlocking green and blue finance to power both.”

He highlighted the Great Wall of Lagos, one of Africa’s most ambitious coastal‑defence systems, which has transformed a potential Atlantic wasteland into the thriving Eko Atlantic City. “What was once threatened by erosion now stands as a beacon of renewal,” Sanwo‑Olu stated. He also spoke of the Omi‑Èkó Initiative, a low‑carbon water‑transport network powered by partnerships with the French Development Agency (AFD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB), featuring clean‑energy ferries and solar‑powered infrastructure.

Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, represented by NIMASA Director‑General Dayo Mobereola, said, “Nigeria’s coastline and inland waterways form one of West Africa’s most strategic frontiers. Supporting vital sectors such as   fisheries, shipping, tourism, energy and biodiversity conservation ;  they collectively have the potential to redefine Nigeria’s growth model. It presents a unique opportunity for Nigeria to transition from oil dependency to a diversified, innovation‑driven and environmentally‑resilient economy. The establishment of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy in 2023 marked a major policy breakthrough under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.” He added that the ministry has implemented wide‑ranging reforms to strengthen governance and position Nigeria as a continental leader in sustainable maritime development.

Earlier, State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources Tokunbo Wahab said, “Lagos sees opportunity. With this summit we have the chance to redefine our relationship with the ocean, not as a resource to be exploited but as a living system to be nurtured — one that sustains both our people and our planet. The blue economy represents more than just water‑based industries; it embodies a new frontier for sustainable prosperity.”

Wahab noted that the Governor officially launched Lagos’ latest policy document, the Climate Investment Opportunities Diagnostic. “This landmark document serves as a vital bridge between our urgent environmental priorities and the tangible investment pathways needed to build a resilient, low‑carbon future for all Lagosians. It reflects our commitment to turning climate ambition into action, and action into lasting impact. Lagos recognises that our challenges transcend borders. Other coastal African cities face similar vulnerabilities. This is why we must work together, sharing data, expertise and resources to build a united African front for coastal resilience. The future of our coastlines depends on the decisions we make today.” He concluded

LAGOS SUMMIT CEMENTS STATE AS HUB FOR AFRICAN CLIMATE INNOVATION

Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo‑Olu reaffirmed the state’s commitment to building Africa’s most resilient coastal economy through innovation, investment, and sustainability. He made the statement at the 11th Lagos International Climate Change Summit held at the Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island. The governor declared that Lagos will continue to lead Africa’s transition to a clean, blue economy that harnesses the ocean for sustainable growth. The summit, themed “Blue Economy, Green Money: Financing Africa’s Coastal Resilience and Ocean Innovation,” brought together global climate financiers, policymakers, and development partners to chart practical pathways for financing Africa’s environmental future.

Sanwo‑Olu described Lagos as “a city built on water, energy, and enterprise,” adding that his administration is deliberately creating blue‑finance opportunities that turn ecological challenges into economic advantages. “The Great Wall of Lagos has transformed what could have been an Atlantic wasteland into the thriving Eko Atlantic City — a living testament to human ingenuity and Lagos’ defiant optimism,” he said. “Investing in Lagos’ resilience is not philanthropy; it is smart economics.”

He also announced the launch of Lagos Carbon, Africa’s first domestic environmental market designed to channel investments into decarbonisation and regenerative projects across the state. According to him, the platform will enable verified carbon trading through blockchain‑backed infrastructure to support Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and create jobs in renewable energy and ecosystem restoration.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, in his welcome address, said the summit underscores the state’s determination to pioneer innovative climate‑resilience solutions. He highlighted recent achievements, including the forthcoming commissioning of a biogas facility at the Ikosi‑Isheri Fruit Market in partnership with the C40 Global Leadership Group. The facility will convert waste to clean energy and fertilizer while cutting carbon emissions. Wahab also announced that Governor Sanwo‑Olu will launch the Climate Investment Opportunities Diagnostic (CIOD), a policy document aligning climate priorities with actionable investment pathways.

Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, represented by NIMASA Director‑General Dr. Dayo Mobereola, said the Federal Government has implemented reforms to boost maritime security, reduce piracy, and promote waste‑to‑wealth initiatives through blue‑economy partnerships. International representatives from Britain, China, Germany, and other partner nations pledged continued support for Nigeria’s climate‑resilience drive, commending Lagos for its leadership among African sub‑national governments.

The 11th Lagos International Climate Change Summit once again positions Lagos as the hub for Africa’s environmental innovation, bridging global climate action with local implementation.
