Al Rihla': The High-tech Footballs Used in Qatar 2022 World Cup That Require No Air But Charged Like Mobile Phones

Al Rihla': The High-tech Footballs Used in Qatar 2022 World Cup That Require No Air But Charged Like Mobile Phones

By Dansu Peter

The official 'Al Rihla' footballs used for the World Cup in Qatar are so high-tech they don't just need to be pumped full of air - they need to be charged.

Manufactured by Adidas, the ball, which takes its name from the Arabic word for 'the journey', has a sensor inside that measures data like speed and direction and allows for ball-tracking and offside calls by the VAR.

The World Cup balls are charged before every game. The balls used at the World Cup in Qatar have a high-tech sensor which needs to be charged.

The sensor is powered by a small battery, which Adidas said can last for six hours of active use, or up to 18 days when not. The sensor, which weighs just 14 grams, gives ball-tracking in real-time; with cameras positioned around the pitch helping referees to determine offside and other questionable decisions.

Any time the ball is kicked, headed, thrown or even so much as tapped, the system picks it up at 500 frames per second. Data is sent in real time from sensors to a local positioning system (LPS), which involves a setup of network antennas installed around the playing field that take in and store the data for immediate use.

When a ball flies out of bounds during the course of play, and a new ball is thrown or kicked in to replace it, KINEXON’s backend system automatically switches to the new ball’s data input without the need for human intervention.

They can now aim at becoming professional players.

The major keys needed to move from grass root player to professional football player are discipline, hard working and focus".

Exclusive: Bruedent Football Academy takes football development to the grassroots

By Kikekon Manoah

Bruedent football club and academy was established in 2014, located at Agboju Lagos state. An initiative to discover, develop and explore football talent at the grass root level. Helping young stars to achieve their career goal. Serving as bridge connecting young talents to their greatest peak. Bruedent FC has achieved a lot in short time, producing players that has represented various academy and football clubs here in Nigeria and abroad.

In an exclusive interview with News Proof, Ojelowo Alli Abiodun the CEO said “Looking at Nigeria’s Super Eagle, they have not been performing well lately because they are average players. Many of them do not have the opportunity to develop themselves at the grass root level, which is affecting their career today. Compare to their counterpart in Europe and other parts of the world”.

“From history, the team that represented Nigeria at the U.S.A. 1994 world cup will always remain in the memories of Nigerians because they are world class football players who were developed from grass root clubs, players like Uche Okachukwu, Jay Jay Okocha and Rashidi Yekini who holds the unbroken title of highest goal scorer for Nigeria till date. The players we have today are not talented enough to represent Nigeria in international level”.

“Nigeria has dropped in FIFA ranking just because of the poor performance of the Nigerian Super Eagle, but if government should invest in grass root football, Nigeria will be able to meet up with so many other countries. If the government can invest in football at the grass root levels Nigeria too can provide good professional footballers in future, that would make the nation gain her rightful place in football”.

He further said “It is the duty N.F.F to organize football competition at grass root level where all football academies and local football clubs would be beneficiary. On the part of Lagos state Football Association, they are trying but it’s not enough. They should organize competition involving all the grass root football clubs in Lagos state. All the previous tournaments have been monopolized to few clubs”.

“We have discovered and developed young talents in Nigeria, helping them further their career in football. Bruedent F.C players have represented various football clubs such as Yobo f.c. at the F.A. cup in Nigeria, Nilayo f.c. at the Nigeria amateur football league. We provided players for Nigerian football team at the grass root level, which is the Golden Eaglet. Many of my players have been invited to Under 17 Golden Eaglet camp where they were able to showcase their talents”.

“We warn so many tournaments around Lagos, as the CEO I have singlehandedly organized various tournaments for football academy in Lagos state where various football stars has participated. We have engaged our players in various youth empowerment, we made sure that both genders are beneficial of our empowerment, one of the beneficiaries is Ruth Ogana who was just signed for Royal Queen F.C in Warri few months ago”.

“On my part I have tried as much as I can to develop various talent, I have successfully organized seven tournaments, all F.C’s around Agboju has benefited from this. In other to improve grass root F.C Lagos state and Nigeria need to organize tournament involving all the grass root F.C which should b replicated in both state and national level”.

He concluded the interview with word of advice to other grass root football teams saying, they should not relent they will definitely get reward for their good works one day.

Chelsea agree fees to signing of new goalkeeper

Chelsea agree fees to signing of new goalkeeper

The Blues are closing in on their seventh major signing of the summer with the Senegal international set to complete a move in the coming days

Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is closing in on a move to Chelsea after they made a breakthrough in talks on Friday, which saw the 28-year-old pull out of a training session to complete talks.

Chelsea had a verbal agreement for a five-year contract with Mendy, but have found it harder to come to an agreement over a fee for their primary goalkeeping target.

The Blues' previous bid was around €20 million (£18m/$24m) and it is understood that a fee will be reached somewhere between that figure and a maximum of €28m (£25m/$33m).

Mendy was seen leaving training with his agent on Friday morning and he went into an afternoon meeting with club president Nicolas Holveck to conclude discussions.

After today, the paperwork will still need to be completed with Mendy heading to London from the north of France for his medical.

Rennes are seeking a replacement and go into their Ligue 1 clash with Nimes this weekend without Mendy. Head coach Julien Stephan spoke about his selection issue ahead of this weekend's action.

"Edouard has an exceptional opportunity, humanly, we have to hear it," Stephan said to the French media. "But we must allow time for negotiations. [A substitute?] Obviously, we are looking."

Mendy spent just a season at Rennes, playing 34 games in their historic effort to earn qualification to the Champions League for the first time.

The Chelsea recruitment duo of Petr Cech, who now works as the technical and performance advisor, and Christophe Lollichon have heavily influenced the choice of Mendy, having come from Les Rouge et Noir to west London themselves.

With Kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero already in the squad, Mendy will arrive as competition for the pair over the No 1 spot with the Blues.

Kepa struggled last season in both shot-stopping and set-pieces, which has led to a loss of confidence that has impacted his displays and saw him dropped twice during the season.

The Blues record signing from Athletic Club will continue to battle with Mendy over the starting spot, with only slight interest from clubs in Spain for a summer transfer.

Covid-19: Singapore engages robotic dogs to monitor, record and report social distancing defaulters

Singapore has announced that henceforth it'll be deploying robot dogs in an effort to help encourage people to practise social distancing as the country deals with the Coronavirus pandemic

On Friday, the government announced it would start deploying Spot, a famous yellow and black canine robot made by BostonDynamics' at local parks and that the robot "dog" will patrol the local areas broadcasting a pre-recorded message to visitors to remind them of the importance of social distancing.

The robotic dog will be equipped with cameras that will scan the surroundings and help government officials estimate the number of people gathering in parks.

"These cameras will not be able to track and/or recognize specific individuals, and no personal data will be collected," the government said in a statement.

"Unlike wheeled robots, Spot works well across different terrains and can navigate obstacles effectively, making it ideal for operation in public parks and gardens," it noted.

According to the government of Singapore, the robotic dog project will run in a limited trial for two weeks at one park during off-peak hours and if all goes well, authorities will consider expanding the program.

Singapore has suffered an alarming spike in Coronavirus cases recently after being praised initially for their handling of the virus.

Since March 17, Singapore's number of confirmed Coronavirus cases grew from 266 to 21,707 cases, according Johns Hopkins University which collates Covid-19 data worldwide .

In March, Singapore launched a contact-tracing app that uses Bluetooth to help users find out if they had close contact with someone infected by the virus.

DEADLY VICTORY: Final Year Student Liverpool's Fan Dies Celebrating UCL Victory Over Barcelona

A fan of Liverpool, Hebert Danso Atiko has died while jubilating after his team won Barcelona during yesterday's game.

Liverpool has lost one of their fans after he collapsed following the team’s 4 nil defeat of Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals second-leg match at Anfield on Tuesday.

Hebert Danso Atiko, a Ghanaian, was found lying on the floor unconscious following a jubilation session for the fourth goal at a pub in Eastern Ghana.

An eyewitness said Atiko was rushed to the Akwatia St. Dominics Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead after other soccer fans at the pub tried but failed to revive him.

Hebert was a final year Engineering student at Akwatia Technical School and was writing his final exams.

He was staying in a rented apartment outside the school campus.

Afriyie said: “We will get the details and see if there was something the students did that suggest that his behavior was in excess.

“On that we can really talk to the students. We have a system in place where we talk to the students and their behavior these days”.

Hebert is believed to be a teenager. Liverpool’s win over Barcelona on Tuesday has been ranked among one of the greatest comebacks in world football.

2018 FIFA Best Award: Luka Modric Beats Ronaldo, Messi; Declared Winner

Luka Modric has been crowned the 2018 FIFA Men’s Player of the year, after defeating fellow finalists Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohammed Salah at the London’s Royal Festival Hall on Monday night.

His emergence follows his exploits with Croatia who reached the final of this year’s FIFA World Cup in Russia and with Real Madrid who retained the UEFA Champions League.

This year’s edition brings an end to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s 10-year domination of the most prestigious award. Both Ronaldo and Messi failed to show up at the awards.

‘It was an unbelievable season, the best season in my life,’ said Modric, 33. ‘I’m very proud of everything I achieved this year. It will be remembered, for sure, forever,’ said Modric after receiving his award.

Nine different categories were decided with the Goalkeeper of the Year going to Belgium goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, while Didier Deschamps won the Coach of the Year for guiding France to win the World Cup in Russia.

In doing so, Deschamps becomes the third man in history to win the World Cup both as a player and a manager, joining Brazil’s Mario Zagallo and Germany’s Franz Beckenbauer.

Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah won the Puskas award in recognition of his strike against Everton last season in the English Premier League which saw him wriggle past three defenders to score. Interestingly Salah’s goal was adjudged the best ahead of Gareth Bale’s bicycle kick against Liverpool during the UEFA Champions League final.

Olympic Lyon manager Reynald Pedros was voted the Women’s Coach of the Year after leading the French side to a league and UEFA Women’s Champions League double last season. The women’s player award went to Brazil’s Marta who beat Lyon duo Ada Hegerberg and Dzsenifer Marozsan. Marta had previously won the-defunct FIFA World Player of the Year award five years in a row between 2006 and 2010.

The voting system is decided by national team managers, national captains, media representatives and an online vote.

Chelsea Signs Jorginho
Chelsea has completed a deal to take Napoli's Jorginho to Stamford Bridge, the club have announced.

The Italy international has penned a five-year deal with the Blues, becoming Maurizio Sarri's first signing for the club

Earlier on Saturday, the Blues confirmed that they had appointed Maurizio Sarri as their new manager for the next three years following the sacking of Antonio Conte on Friday.

Chelsea will pay £57m (€65m/$86m) for the player, with Jorginho having signed a five-year contract with the club, where he will earn £102k per week.

Jorginho played 33 times for Napoli in Serie A last season, scoring two goals and creating four more from his deep-lying position in the midfield as they finished second behind Juventus in the standings.

Speaking to the club's official website, Jorginho said: "I am absolutely ecstatic to be here at Chelsea. It is not easy to become part of such a big team so I am very, very happy.

"I am excited to play in such an intense league, for a team that gives everything to play and win."

The Italy international was an important member of Napoli's squad under Sarri and the Blues expect him to have a similar influence in London.

"We are delighted Jorginho has chosen to join Chelsea," club director Marina Granovskaia said. "He was one of the most coveted midfielders in Europe and will become an important member of the playing squad.

"He has demonstrated his quality working under Maurizio Sarri and we are convinced his signing will help bring further success to Stamford Bridge."

City were previously interested in the 26-year-old Italy international but it is Sarri's side who have won the race to sign the player.
